Hello guys,
Did someone here already purchase the 2014's blu-ray edition of the classic superhero anime "Hurricane Polymar" (1974) from Tatsunoko? I'm asking this because - here in Italy - Dynit (a home video company) issued the Italian blu-ray set, and the picture quality wasn't good - someone even suspected it's an upscale. The anime show is also known as "Hurricane Polymer". Last edited by UniSol GR77; 06-12-2018 at 01:21 PM. |

Are you sure? Dynit typically wouldn't do that (upscale it themselves), at least from what I know. I'm assuming they received a bad master.
Ask mp3dom, as he's one of the compressionists at Dynit (and also he's a godly compressionist- his work often surpasses the Japanese releases). He might know. Again, I don't own it, but I'm curious as well. |

The footage in the Dynit Blu-ray PV doesn't look dissimilar from the Japanese Blu-ray PV, so probably same master? The PVs don't look bad IMO, but I can imagine that there are people who don't like the grainy and soft picture of 16mm film. Only ep #1 appears to have been filmed on 35mm.
Dynit Blu-ray PV: Japanese Blu-ray PV: I've been meaning to give this show a try because of the crazy gifs: ![]() |

No upscale were made by Dynit, the video comes directly from the japanese masters and the picture quality is exactly the same as the japanese blurays (not a lower quality).
Episode 1 is the only one printed on 35mm, all the others are on 16mm. This can also be seen by the difference of perceived picture quality and grain amount who was, by choice, not removed nor altered in any way (exactly like the japanese blurays). |

Anime Sols had some interest in releasing this on DVD here in America, but unfortunately the pledging process did not get fulfilled.

It's truly unfortunate that the Japanese crew did not remove scratch or hair on the picture quality. I'm fine with grain, but I think they should have restored the picture quality to a certain extent. |
