Australia The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (May 7, 2014)

Umbrella have announced The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension for May 7, 2014.

Apparently it will include the following:
  • Commentary with director W.D. Richter and writer Earl Mac Rauch
  • Alternate opening with Jamie Lee Curtis
  • Buckaroo Banzai Declassified Documentary
  • Deleted Scenes Archives
  • New Jet Car Trailer
  • Teaser Trailer

Really keen for this. Big time fan and it will be out the week of my birthday. I think I know what I'll be asking for!

Thank goodness I didn't buy the Germany one. Whilst this is probably the same transfer it will cost a lot less.

I love it but it's very weird so it's definitely a cult movie and will not to be everyone's tastes.

This says it all:

Quote:
Brilliant brain surgeon Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller, Robocop) sits at the threshold of science in his modified Ford F-350 pickup truck, boldly venturing forth into the 8th Dimension. But when Dr. Emilio Lizardo (John Lithgow, Rise of the Planet of The Apes) devises a plot to steal Banzai's Jet Car and bring an evil army of aliens back to destroy Earth, it is up to guitar wielding brain surgeon Banzai to save the universe.
That should give a pretty good indication that it's a crazy ride. I like to think of it as a cross of David Cronenberg and John Carpenter but in reality it's hard to explain.

Will this be the longer cut that's available on dvd? I have the German release but will defiantly upgrade if it has the longer opening sequence!

I doubt it. I imagine it will be identical transfer-wise, just like the What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

This started life as a sequel of sorts to Big Trouble in Little China then morphed into Buckaroo Bonzai. W.D Richter wrote treatments of both films. It's a fun little number
