Default Exposure / The Knife / A Grande Arte (1991)



Another in my tradition of 'solo post' wish lists, Exposure from 1991, starring Peter Coyote, Tcheky Karyo, and Amanda Pays. It's a solid thriller, but what makes it totally unique is its focus on the culture of knife fighting. Directed by Walter Salles, now much better known for The Motorcycle Diaries, it features vicious, realistic fight scenes that are less flashy than standard Hollywood choreography. The training sequences are also accurate, and seem to come from the Filipino edged weapon lineage, though I don't know who was the fight consultant. Exposure was released on VHS, and apparently DVD (might just be bootleg). It would be miraculous if this movie ever ended up on blu-ray.
