The TV Movie does have PAL speedup as it uses the DVD remaster as the basis for the upscale. In general, the reviews for it indicate that there is little improvement over the DVD released in the Revisitations box set.
Shada does not have PAL speedup in the UK. Nor does Season 12 (Tom Baker) Blu-Ray, The Power of the Daleks or Spearhead From Space. They are all presented as 50i. Series 1-4 suffer from NTSC slowdown. |

There will be no PAL speed up on the Shada blu-ray as it was shot for broadcast using the PAL standard of 50 half frames a second with the blu-ray mastered in 50i to replicate this frame rate.
If your player is compatible with 50i content then it will play at the correct speed. If not then it won't play at all. EDIT: To clarrify, with the exception of the three editions The Movie no classic Doctor Who DVD or blu-ray released in the UK has PAL speed up as the show was shot in PAL. The region 1 DVDs do not have so called NTSC slowdown as this does not happen when converting standard definition PAL to NTSC. EDIT 2: The Movie blu-ray has the equivalent of PAL speed up as it was upscaled from the same PAL master used for the special edition DVD. I wouldn't bother with it as it's barely an improvement on the special edition DVD (anyone who claims otherwise is mistaking sharpening for detail) while almost all bonus material is presented in SD on a bonus DVD. my player can do Full-HD 1080 output (24 or 60p.) It does play 24 fps. Think it will play 25fps ? I also do have a ps3. Will that play 50i ?

'Torchwood: Miracle Day' also has PAL speedup in the UK.
Also, Series 1-4 & Day Of The Doctor 3D/2D have NTSC slowdown, and 'The Complete Specials' and 'Torchwood' series 1-3 are converted to 60i. Last edited by MrChristoph; 07-10-2018 at 05:26 PM. |

US PS3 won't do 50i discs full stop.
Whether your TV could display them in another thing too. Some players will convert to 60i but that is messy, and nowhere near a professional conversion. That TV Movie release still niggles me. Wasn't done by anyone who knew what they were doing and is a mess. The team who did the season 12 release would no doubt have pressed for a 24p upscale failing any access to the film materials (which are hidden away in Universal's vault if they haven't junked them or were in that fire). |
