USA Magic Forest (2010) 3D OU Blu-ray [Region Locked / Free] [also anaglyph]

3D Magic Forest Blu-ray

The first 3D only movie for Blu-ray has been announced as Magic Forest 3D. Never heard of the movie before and it looks quite weird.

The World Cup film is 3D only and comes out the week before this one. That is also not including promotional discs.

Where did you read that? The box say's 3D only so there is no 2D version available and you would need a 3D TV and player to watch it.

Exclamation

It is technically the 3rd 3D-only disc after 2010 FIFA Worldcup and after Imax Deep Sea, but nevermind.

There are already a few 3D side-by-side Blu-ray discs that simply have one stream (1920x1080) with both the left-eye and the right-eye view (960x1080 each) next to each other. These discs can be played on any BD-player and only require a HDMI 1.3 output, therefore eliminating the need for a 3D-BD-player or HDMI 1.4 A/V-receiver, but they are not Full-HD for each eye.

However, the cover-art shows the real Blu-ray 3D logo, which is either contradicting, or they 'might' have both types (dual-stream and side-by-side) included on the disc...

By the way, the spine mentions that it is a 'RELAX' themed disc with music.

UPDATES:
It is indeed NOT an official Blu-ray 3D disc with dual-stream (full HD) tech, so it mis-uses the official Blu-ray 3D logo. Instead, it uses Over-Under (or Above-Below as they call it) tech. Therefore, it is only Half-HD, but you can play this on any BD-player, no 3D-player needed. However, you'll need a 3D display/PJ, of course.

Secondly, there is NO 2D-version on the disc, but it contains an additional 3D-Anaglyph version, which you can watch on any display/PJ with a pair of Anaglyph (magenta-green, in this case) glasses. However, these are NOT included. There is a voucher for 5 pairs (4 paper and 1 plastic), but you'll need to pay the shipping fees for that (and you'll need to live in the US).

- The length of this relaxation 'movie' is only 51:04, and that includes the credits; just so you'll know.
- No narration, music only (which is a good thing IMHO)
- No Region coding, so that's great either
- Although, audio is only Dolby Digital 2.0, no LFE channel

United Kingdom You DON'T need a 3D blu ray player for this disc.

You don't need a 3D blu ray player, you can use an ordinary blu ray player to play this. But your TV needs to be 3D and have the 3D options(2D-3D, side by side and over/under) in order to play it in 3D.

I recently purchased a similar disc from Amazon's German website, Delta Entertainment's 'Meeres Aquarium'. This requires the same set-up I've described in the previous paragraph. You put the disc in and when it starts you'll get two options: 2D or 3D. You start the programme by clicking the 3D option and you'll see two images side by side. You simply take your TV's remote, press the 3D button on it and set the TV to play 'side by side'(at least that's how it was with my aquarium disc). Then, once that's done, simply don your 3D glasses and enjoy the film.

That's what I do whenever I play my aquarium disc and the whole thing works a treat. No doubt 'Magic Forest' will give similar enjoyment.

Incidentally, Delta Entertainment have a similar disc on Amazon's German website: '3D Fireplaces'. The company have differentiated these from regular "official" 3D blu ray releases by christening them '3D Shutter', probably to avoid any confusion(perhaps the company who've released 'Magic Forest' should have done the same).

Hope the above has been of some use to you.

John.

The 3D Shutter name is a really good initiative.

Default Sequential and side by side

In the industry we call it sequential which supports the active or shutter glasses. At the moment there is only 3 software packages out there that can do MVC encoding. It's quite clever where you have a full 1080 HD left eye stream and for the right it is the difference between the two eyes.

We have also just shot 2 fireplaces which are also going to be made into a 3d Bluray title.

(Mod Note: This isnt a place to advertise your ebay auctions)

I watched this on Sunday with a sandwich. So it is basically shots of a forest for 50 minutes but there are so cool scenes and good photography here. And the 3D is strong! You will love the 3D. There's also a 5 minute feature which I believe is an ad for their other movies, like there's a clip at a theme part. This was also pretty cool and I wish it had kept going lol. Anyway I would recommend getting this if you don't have it!

I have to disagree. I think there are plenty of other documentaries, etc... to spend your money on. This release appears to use mpeg-2 compression and I found the resolution to be lower than most, if not all, of the documentaries out there. Recommended only for the 3D completist.

I watched it with a potato, but it talked all the way through and ruined the movie. That’s the last time I go on a date with food.

I wouldn't call it a documentary though. More like a scenery experience. There have been several of those in 3D.

This is the most accurate description so far. It's like that scene in Soylent Green. Imagine you're Edgar G Robinson, in a gurney, watching majestic scenes, and listening to thrilling music....

Except in Magic Forest, the music sucks, the scenery is lame, there's no mercy at the end for you, and you're tortured for an additional 50 minutes. There's not even the benefit of you being re-puposed for food.

I'm sorry, did I forget to say :spoiler: ?

Well what I meant is that it doesn't compare to documentaries. Not that a scenery experience is a negative. I like those.
