Hello,
Premise: to me, "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" is one of the most visionary movies of the Eighties and sure as hell a cinematic masterpiece. Don't compare it to "The Road Warrior", they are two different "worlds" and it would be unfair to do that. Said that, my questions: 1- At the very beginning of the movie, the plane is approaching Max from the left side... but moments later, Max falls from his caravan on the left side, as the plane was instead coming from the RIGHT SIDE. Why the reversed shot? 2- In some scenes, it appears as the Train-Truck is going very fast, especially during the second half of the chase scene. Right at the very beginning of the chase scene, few seconds before the "Plan? Ain't no plan!" speech (Pig Killer), we can see the Train-Truck is not going super fast, even if Max holds himself very strong to the train. Maybe was its speed increasing time by time? What do you think about it? Said that, after decades, I just realized that the Train-Truck was powered by methane and that's why the Guardsmen did not use the rifles or any other firearms, because they didn't want the Train-Truck to explode in millions of fragments with Master aboard. 3- In the sequence where a ragged barbarian, driving a bike/side-car, is approaching Ironbar Bassey (hanging from the pole)... the bike stumbles upon a bridge and the barbarian falls into the void... at the end of the sequence I can hear a "THUMB" sound. Do you think it was very high? I suppose the barbarian died. Moments later, even Ironbar Bassey falls into the void, but he survived LOL 4- As you already know, the survivors reach Sydney. You can see that there is no more ocean/sea. It's my personal opinion that in either the Thunderdome world and the Fury Road world, they used experimental bombs/weapons that made all water evaporate from the surface of Earth. Nuclear weapons CANNOT achieve that. What's your feedback on this? Thanks... hopefully someone will answer. Last edited by UniSol GR77; 07-03-2018 at 12:34 PM. |

I think you are overthinking it.
Everyone knows Thunderdome had a very troubled production and is basically directed by two people. Miller did the action scenes and George Ogilvie the rest. They probably didn't even think about these small mistakes and just wanted to get the movie out. It's also a known fact that many directors leave mirrored shots in their movie on purpose. In the end it's just entertainment. Last edited by P-Rock; 06-30-2018 at 09:48 AM. |

In FURY ROAD, Batman & Robin can be seen briefly trying to outrun Immortan Joe.
![]() My question: Is this commentary on the post Apocalyptic world being no place for the heroes of the past, or am I missing something? Last edited by DR Herbert West; 06-30-2018 at 10:26 AM. |

I need to rewatch Thunderdome. Watched it in 2015 before Fury Road released and thought it was very different from Road Warrior or the first Mad Max.

All four Mad Max movies are different "cinematic worlds" from each other. There's no other saga out there like the Mad Max one.

Roger Ebert gave 4/4 to Thunderdome! It's really fun to read old reviews.

Well, I checked the scenes again:
1- I found the "solution", so to speak. I think the AERIAL POINT OF VIEW at the very very beginning of the movie is NOT (supposed to be) the Transaviar, but the director's point of view on the Mad Max world. The Transaviar comes from the RIGHT SIDE, and Max falls on the LEFT SIDE of the caravan. So it make sense. The Transaviar comes from the opposite side of the "Aerial Shot" (which eventually represents the director and the movie themselves). That's pure genius. 2- When Max is approaching Pig Killer (while he's driving), you can see that the Train-Truck is already going much faster than seconds before. The Train-Truck was going pretty slow at first. It took a while to reach top speed, which kind of makes sense. It probably accelerates slowly, but once it reaches top speed, it can retain its momentum and go pretty fast. Also, the Train-Truck loses a segment. Losing that weight may also help it move even faster later on. 3- Maybe the barbarian survived. But I suppose that he fell in an "horizontal" way, and maybe he broke his back when he hit the ground. Given the fact that the bridge looks high, I think he died. |
