I have never seen this but I am definitely in. I love this pre code stuff. Now if only Criterion could give us Freaks, Maniac, Baby Face, Safe in Hell, the Mae West films and whatever other pre code films they can get their hands on.....

They can probably get their hands on most of them. It's more of a matter of A. the resources/money to restore them to be up to their quality level, and B. if their already crowded slate can handle many more films.

In all fairness Criterion have just given us a box set of pre-code films, five of the six movies in the Dietrich/Von Sternberg set are pre-code and fairly risqué for the time.

I’m up for this though, always been a huge Miriam Hopkins fan, one of the most underrated of classic movie stars.

Very exciting news. I've seen most of the precode 'classics' but I don't think this has been readily available in DVD so a luxury version of the film that made Joe Breen tsar ought to be a real treat.

TCM and MOMA restored this film awhile back. An underrated horror film. Jack La Rue's performance is fantastic.

This is an excellent film, saw it on TCM earlier this year for the first time. This and Convention City are the two of the big films that brought on the strict enforcement of the Code. George Raft was originally cast as Trigger but dropped out as feared it would career suicide for him.

This will be an enthusiastic blind buy. The movie itself intrigues me, and anything I can do to signal to Criterion, "hey, more pre-code, please" is a no brainer. I hope this is just the start of tapping that era. There are so many wonderful (and surprising films) to be had.

As I mentioned in the Criterion thread, I've read about this over the years on multiple occasions, but I've never seen it, unfortunately. I'm very, very much looking forward to owning this. X-Mas will be coming a few weeks early for me this year.

Tod Browning’s Freaks would be lovely. I saw a theatrical screening a couple months ago, and it’s still a strange and entertaining watch.

I can't wait for this one as it's a favourite but i'd also like to see some of Warren Williams pre-code movies eventually receive hd releases. He wasn't known as the king of pre-codes for nothing.
The Gold Diggers Of 1933, Three On A Match, Employees' Entrance, Skyscraper Souls & The Mouthpiece are all terrific.

From the other forum:

I love the vintage pressbook-style booklet. Those ads are very rare and hard to find in good quality! I suppose the essay is on the reverse side.
