Why so serious, Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway?

Here, The Hollywood Reporter debuts a first-look image from the upcoming movie Serenity, which features the duo (collaborating for the first time since Interstellar) with intense facial expressions — and a new blonde hair color for Hathaway.

The upcoming mystery tale was written and directed by Steven Knight. This is Knight’s third feature-length film as director; he previously directed Locke and Redemption and also wrote screenplays for numerous movies including Allied and Burnt.

In Serenity, McConaughey plays a fishing boat captain whose past is about to crash up against his life on a small island in the tropics and ensnare him in a new reality that might not be all it seems to be. The film also stars Uma Thurman, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou and Diane Lane.

Serenity is currently shooting on location in Mauritius. Guy Heeley and Greg Shapiro are producing the IM Global project.

I like Steven Knight a lot, and the trailer started off well, but this looks a bit all over the place. We'll have to see, there's a chance they're hiding the films biggest reveals in favour of a seemingly more streamlined thriller.

No interest in this movie? Looks like there's some serious potential here, between the trailer and cast. Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jason Clarke, and Diane Lane. I'm as amped about this as any movie this October, and it's looking like a strong month for movies. October 19 creeping up on us, where's the love?

They pushed the release back to January 25th it appears.

I can't believe they pushed it to next year... I've been seeing the trailer in theaters for the past like... 6 months. I was really starting to look forward to it.
