Default Tenacious D - The Pick of Destiny 2 (2018)

2

Over the weekend, Tenacious D, comprised of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, played the Shaky Knees Festival. Black announced from the stage that they are working on Pick of Destiny 2. The news shocked the audience since the last movie came out more than 12 years ago. While it was a box office bomb, The Pick of Destiny has gone on to gain cult status over the years and has a massive following, along with the soundtrack to the movie.

During the middle of their set at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, Jack Black addressed the audience to announce the good news. Black's announcement was brief and didn't shed much light on specifics, but that's not what's important here. Additionally, Jack Black also revealed that it's coming out this October. He had this to say about the sequel to Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.

Quote:
"I don't know where you'll be able to see it, but we have decided that it's happening and it's coming out."
enacious D are currently working on a new record entitled Post-Apocalypto and it is believed that this album will tie into the new movie, much like The Pick of Destiny soundtrack tied into that big screen comedy. However, that has yet to be confirmed at this time. In recent interviews, Jack Black described the album as a rock opera. So, the new movie could very well be an over-the-top rock opera, which would make perfect sense. Black explains.

Quote:
"We're working on a rock opera. It's a post-apocalyptic musical comedy, and the idea is that you know, you've got Pink Floyd The Wall, and you've got Tommy (by) The Who, and those are the only true rock operas in existence."
Apparently, Tenacious D have been hard at work on Post Apocalypto for years. In another interview, Jack Black said that it was originally an animated series that nobody in Hollywood wanted to take on, so they decided to do it themselves. So, the movie could actually be animated, if it really is going to go the route of the rock opera. Black also jokingly declared that Tenacious D's rock opera will be the best because the Pink Floyd's The Wall and The Who's Tommy, "suck!"

Jack Black did not reveal any other information about the sequel to The Pick of Destiny from the stage. But, if his timeline is accurate, we're going to be hearing a lot more about the project ahead of its supposed October release date. Since Black did not specify where we'll be able to see the sequel, it's imagined that it will end up in the hands of Amazon or Netflix when it comes to releasing the project. Or, the D may decide to go another way entirely. Regardless, fans of Tenacious D should all be very happy right now.

Where I live, Tenacious D was (is) pretty unknown. 'Tribute' became a very small hit, but that was the only one. Many thought it was a one-hit thing Jack Black did, including myself. Thanks to the internet, I discovered the full album of Tenacious D mid '00s and fell in love with it. Many did. I know the songs word by word. The follow-up wasn't on the same level, imo, but stil extremely enjoyable. Very curious what this will bring now ...

Pick of Destiny is one of the most underrated comedies of all time. That movie is frickin' HILARIOUS. I am definitely up for another film, though I hope it isn't animated. That would be very disappointing.

I agree and would add that it's one of the best musicals too.

Shouldn't it be called Bong of Destiny? Either way I'm in!

Love POD! The first time I saw it, it got me right away with "Kickapoo", just a great intro. Dio, JB and Meatloaf - just classic!

This is insanely unexpected. I'm a huge Tenacious D fan, I can't wait for this sequel!!!! Hopefully this also allows for the first movie to be released on Blu-ray.

If they get a decent animation crew and it has a good budget, it can look awesome and do things that would be very expensive or impossible to do in live action. I mean a comedic rock opera in an animation style similar to those classic and epic heavy metal album covers sounds like a kick ass movie.

WB, Warner Archive, or Shout Factory definitely need to get on with putting the first movie on Blu-ray.

Pick of Destiny is funny, and I love the D (I wish Trainwreck were still around, though). I'll believe the sequel is for real when it is actually released. Just being realistic.

At least the DVD wasn't too bad, the EX/ES tracks are pretty good.

Tenacious D Detail New Album, Web Series ‘Post-Apocalypto’
Band use fridge to survive nuclear blast in trailer for six-part animated show

Tenacious D will release a new album and a new animated web show, both titled Post-Apocalypto, this fall. The six-part series will premiere on YouTube September 28th, while the album arrives November 2nd via Columbia Records.

The band shared a teaser for the Post-Apocalypto show, which opens with a nod to the infamous Indiana Jones “nuke the fridge” moment, with Jack Black and Kyle Gass emerging from a refrigerator to discover the world has been transformed into an apocalyptic wasteland. “What have we done to Mother Earth?” Black asks with plenty of melodramatic gravitas. Gass quips in response, “We didn’t do anything, did we?”

In the series, Tenacious D will save the world from the new forms of evil that have spawned in the wake of the nuclear blast. The duo’s adventures will include a visit to the White House, a trip in a time machine and a space adventure, all while they grapple with “some tried and true daddy issues.”

Black hand-drew every frame of the upcoming Post-Apocalypto series, hence the show’s simple and static animation style. All six episodes will feature new Tenacious D songs and the series will culminate with the release of Post-Apocalypto, the album.

Post-Apocalypto marks Tenacious D’s first album since 2012’s Rize of the Fenix. John Spiker produced the record, while Dave Grohl returned to provide drums. Post-Apocalypto is available to pre-order and will be available digitally, on CD, translucent green vinyl and as a limited edition vinyl picture disc.

By Jack Black himself. I think it's just a so-called series featuring the songs to promote the album. Not a "real" series.
