Default Samsung LE40M86 HDMI problems with PS3 Blu Ray player

Hi there,

I just got my M86 which is truly the best tv I have seen yet in this price range. IMO, only the X bravia series top it.

Now - I have connected several devices to it - my xbox360 via component, and my Apple Tv and PS3 via HDMI.

Via component, the XBOX360 outputs 1080p, which is well recieved by the TV.

Via HDMI, the TV allows the PS3 to output up to 1080i, and when it reaches 1080p - the tv says the mode is not supported.

I did some research before I started this thread, and it seems the solution is the upcoming update 1.9 for the PS3?
AFAIK BY NOW, from what I have read - it has something to do with the 24hz stuff? That the Samsung TV cannot handle the signal if it is not "forced" or something?

Whatever. Did anyone encounter similar problems or for some reason know any solutions?

(BTW - just had a shopping killing spree, got meself 15 Blu Ray titles in less than 2 mins) lol.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hmm, this would be the first I've heard of the PS3 not outputting 1080p. And I am assuming you have set it to output 1080p from its (PS3) internal settings?

If so, then you may have to change the "BD-1080p 24Hz output (HDMI)" under the DVD/BD settings.

Since I dont have a 1080p TV (only 1080i) I dont know of anything else you can do. But it should output 1080p no problem.

Now I am getting concerned about that I might have to return this set.

As of now, the internal PS3 settings are set to output picture in 1080i. When I choose 1080p in the internal PS3 menu - the tv set says the mode is not supported. This is via HDMI ofc.

Once again, XBOX360 is runnin 1080p via component.

Well, you could always try running the PS3 on component cables and then switch to 1080p to see what it does.

If it still cannot do it, then it could be the PS3. But if it can, then maybe its your HDMI cable.

I had a similar problem. When I first connect my M86 to my PS3 (firmware 1.82) I got 1080p. Then I switched on whiter than white and rebooted, then I got "signal mode not supported" by the tv. 1080i and whiter than white worked fine though which is weird.

Default I figured it out

Hey mate I figured out the problem. I was having the same issues with the Samsung M series.

Firstly, make sure your HDMI cable is plugged into your ps3 and the HDMI 2 port on the Samsung TV. The TV can only view HDMI for consoles on the 2nd port.

Then go into your PS3 visual settings, and change the setting to HDMI, the screen will go black for 30 seconds. Dont wait, immediately, press the source button on the tv remote a few times until you get to the channel HDMI2.

You should now see picture. Next step is audio, go to audio settings and pick HDMI. Now you should have both.
