Default Funko Launching Cereal Based on Film Characters

Quote:
Speaking with Coronado Eagle & Journal, Funko founder Michael Becker just dropped a pretty big announcement, revealing that this Summer will see the launch of a brand new line of Funko Cereal that includes licenses that are part of the company’s POP! line. And they’re kicking things off with Freddy Krueger, Elvira and Beetlejuice!

“One of the fun things is we are about to release our own line of cereal, with a mini-Pop inside,” Becker explained. “We got all the cool licenses like He-Man, Wonder Woman, Elvira Mistress of the Dark, Freddy Krueger and our own Freddy Funko. We start shipping to stores in June and we have the distribution set up and the product is pre-sold. It’s just one more of those feel-good Funko items.”

“I used to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings while I was eating cereal. There are prizes in the cereal and it will sell for $7.99 a box. When you add milk to the Freddy Krueger cereal, it looks blood red. With the Beetlejuice cereal, when you add milk it looks like slime, and the Elvira cereal will turn black."

The site adds that line, which will be marketed through collectible store outlets (like FYE) as opposed to grocery stores, goes on sale in June 2018.

At that price you're basically paying for the toy, not the cereal.

Is this legit? I mean, I know April Fool's Day is still two days away but it wouldn't be the first time somebody played a prank a little early.

If true, though, I would totally buy me some Freddy Krueger cereal.

They’re not selling this in grocery stores so this is just a novelty item for collectors of certain pop culture brands. Most won’t even eat the cereal, it’s all about the packaging.

There's a Funko for everything and anything, why the hell not?

I never got into this Funko Pop craze. They look like cheap, poorly detailed figures with creepy giant heads that all share the same likeness. I only ever bought the Buffy figures since I collect anything Buffy. I’ll buy a box if they make cereal of that, but I don’t like how they’re using the same character design as their vinyl figures.

Yeah they suck for the most part. For cheaper cool figures I go with Kotobukiya, I know they still aren't as cheap as 9.99 but I guess you get what you pay for.

Did you not see that they come with a, I assume, mini-pop of the character also so it's not just $8 for cereal. It's more the collectible package and the pop vinyl inside that is the cost

I'm not a cereal person but I might just buy a Freddy box, for display, if I ever happen to come across one in store.

You're going to display a box of cereal? Isn't that more like hoarding?

Isn't that the whole point of the thing in the first place? And it's not like I'm going to actively seek these out or preorder it online LOL.

I'm just saying if I happen to across these in stores, then I might pick up the Freddy box. Because it box itself looks pretty cool.

Not really, no. Lots of Nintendo fans collect sealed boxes of the recent Mario amiibo cereal and Pokemon boxes from the 90s and early 2000s, same with Yu-Gi-Oh! cereal from back then. The Mario cereal was seriously selling for like $20-30 a box until the demand died down and they made more.

No, you eat the cereal and collect the figure. Or you end up like this.
