About a dozen cities in the US will get this movie in IMAX 3D. And it opens today, Feb 5.
Check local listings for those interested. One of my local IMAX theaters will be playing it in 3D. https://www.imax.com/movies/wandering-earth http://www.china.org.cn/arts/2019-02...t_74441418.htm ![]() |

Saw this film in digital 3D... First, the 3D conversion of this film is a very rushed job, they only had a very limited time for this conversion. The final result is actually decent consider the limited time, there are some CGI shots worked well in 3D. But don't expect too much. The 3D conversion is done by China companies, VART GROUP INC., CUBIC PICTURES INC. and CHINA FILM CO.

I really enjoyed the film. Excellent Sci-Fi.
The world building along with the special effects are quite good. The movie has the look of a big Hollywood blockbuster. I also enjoyed the score which fit very well. This is not some slow-plodding cerebral drama. This is actually a wall-to-wall action packed movie. It’s one ‘action set-piece’ after another. So you never get bored. And yet there are moments meant to tug at your heartstrings. So it’s meant to provide the full package. I thought the 3D conversion looked great in the IMAX 3D format. The cinematography and the overall visual style really lent itself towards creating solid depth. It simply looked great in IMAX. |

I have three IMAX screens within 45 miles of my home here in Dallas and NONE have offered ANY 3D showings in months. IMAX screens have been exclusively showing 2D showings only so I’ve had to settle for Real 3D. I’ve been forced to watch Black Panther 3D, Infiniti War 3D, Ralph Breaks the Internet 3D and How to Train Your Dragon 3 3D on smaller, dimmer screens with inferior sound systems.
It’s good to know that hasn’t happened everywhere. It’s just so disappointing. Normally I only go to the cinema for IMAX 3D releases... otherwise, the experience is usually better at home. |

I saw this today using in IMAX Laser 3D (single projector, so not sure if 4K 3D like the dual laser system is) and visually the film looks great in IMAX, lots of impressive world design elements in the film. I was also pleasantly surprised by the 3D, a lot of great moments with that particularly with CGI effects you can tell we're done with 3D presentation in mind (like an epic pull back shot early on or objects floating in space coming out towards the screen near the end), it wasn't top tier 3D, but better than many Hollywood blockbusters in that regard.
They were just doing IMAX 3D showings for yesterday and today unfortunately (and it was packed, with the late night show also being listed as "nearly full" on the AMC A List app, so I think they might well make more than Lego if it was still in select IMAX locations), they are still playing it this weekend, but just in regular 2D as is typical with import releases. Still, while I'm glad I saw it for the experience and interesting to see another country's take on big budget sci-fi, when you move away from the visuals onto storytelling, I think it was not up there with some of the big Hollywood hits that clearly were inspirations for some parts (in fact there were elements so closely modeled on 2001 and Gravity that they felt more like rip offs than inspirations). It felt convoluted at times, and got pretty melodramatic in the third act. |

![]() Actually looks pretty darn good. If it will get a 3D bluray release...that is the question. |

Netflix bought the home rights to this movie, so seems like chances of a US 3D disc (which were already slight) are gone and probably won’t get a 2D blu either. I don’t know about how big the 3D/2D Blu market is in China, but maybe there could be a release there since Netflix doesn’t operate in the country due to legal restrictions. |

I see, thanks for clearing it up JCat.
![]() I've seen a few movies from other countries that have singing numbers during the film. Even action movies like Race 3 3D had a dance/song number in it. But yes, the CGI looks good in this film. Reminds me of the movie 2012 a little bit. |
