Default Young & Hungry wrap-up movie canceled by Freeform

Quote:
Amid a wave of cancellations, many broadcast, cable and streaming outlets have started offering a wrap-up TV movie as a way to provide a proper and satisfying conclusion for viewers.

However, Freeform's Young and Hungry won't have the opportunity to do so. Star Emily Osment revealed that the Disney-owned cable network has passed on its proposed wrap-up movie for the multicamera comedy that was canceled in March after five seasons.

"It breaks my heart to tell you that in addition to @FreeformTV not giving our Young & Hungry audience the ending our show deserved, they have ALSO decided to not go forward with a full-length film. From me and my obvious future tv hubby @sadowski23 we love you and we’re sorry," she wrote.

Freeform declined comment.

Following a year-plus hiatus, Young and Hungry aired its final 10 episodes in June. In announcing the March cancellation, Freeform revealed it was in development on a wrap-up movie to offer a proper conclusion to the show. The fifth season was not planned as a series finale as Freeform ordered an additional 10 episodes for the comedy more than a year before the cabler opted to ax the comedy. What's more, the series and movie — which was merely in development — was produced by an outside studio: CBS Television Studios.

Young and Hungry, created by David Holden, was the last series on Freeform that predated current execs Tom Ascheim and Karey Burke, who have focused on repopulating the cabler with edgier fare, such as The Bold Type and Grown-ish, as the network caters to "becomers," adults 18-34 experiencing a series of firsts like jobs and relationships. Freeform previously announced that veteran The Fosters, which also predated both execs, would end this year as it preps a three-night event to wrap the series. The cabler also ordered a wrap-up for Shadowhunters, after producers Constantin Film lost its output deal and the show became too expensive and Freeform was forced to cancel the drama.

Other canceled shows to get wrap-up productions include Netflix's Sense8 and NBC's Timeless.

I'd settle for the last 10 episodes on screaming.

Definitely sucks, that was a kicker of a cliffhanger... though I think what was going to happen was obvious, it sucks to just leave it unfinished.

I thought they were going to move to Seattle but that's just me.
