I did think that La Dolce Vita would have been released by Argent as they did 8 1/2 I would love if Studio Canal upgraded their Fellini DVD boxset (including La Strada) to Blu-ray |

Well, Nouveaux made a complete mess of their DVD releases of both La dolce Vita and Giulietta degli spiriti in the UK, getting the aspect ratio of the former completely wrong at 1: 1.75, and omitting the entire opening reel of the latter. They are, in a word, incompetent: and careless as well. It'll be a miracle if this release isn't loused up somehow....

It wasn't Nouveaux who got the aspect ratio wrong, it was the original release from Momentum. Although arguably Nouveaux's transfer was weak. Based off the Nouveaux DVD extras, their past form and the cover shown on Amazon, I imagine the only extra of significance (other than than some trailers) will be the ~19 min interview with Anita Ekberg.
In contrast, the Criterion is set to have three new interviews as well as two archival ones, as well as 'Felliniana ephemera' (which could be just pictures or could contain a variety of different press materials etc - hopefully interesting either way!). As to the Nouveaux Pictures / Argent Films difference, the covers have the same style with the Cinema Classics banner at the top. Are they distributed by the same parent company? |

Here's the requested review:
The release uses as a foundation the 4K Bologna restoration, but the high-definition transfer is not identical to the one Criterion used for their release. La Dolce Vita Blu-ray REVIEW ![]() ![]() Pro-B |

Hey, Pro-B, I remember you asking people if they want to see a review of the Australian disc and I just wanted to re-mention that I'd like to see that. It's (currently) cheaper (at the umbrella website) option than the UK release and comes with an abundance of special features (including the interview from the UK) release that aren't on the Criterion release.
I think it would be beneficial for people unable to get the Criterion disc to know that there's a much better Region B option out there than the UK release. Provided it looks and sounds about as good as that of the UK and US disc. |
