Great news.
Who would've thought at the beginning of the format that we'd get an actual Republic movie on there before anything made at Fox before 1970 (or even a movie made before Alien) on 4k? Last edited by Areyakiddin; 05-27-2024 at 09:11 PM. |

This couldn't look any more legit so far. And to think I was raised on the colorized VHS version. I'm not sure why my family didn't have any other John Wayne movies but as a kid I was under the impression that Wayne did mostly war movies rather than westerns. I'm glad I haven't watched it in decades. I hope this movie still holds up. I remember my whole family being blown away by the real WW2 footage in it.

I want this as I’ve only ever owned it on dvd. I was considering buying it on Blu-Ray from France I think as getting the olive release was proving hard. I’m glad I waited. A few more months and hopefully it will be here.

Artwork has them all wearing Army helmets instead of the correct helmets with Marine camo cloth on them.
Duke wore the netted helmet in Longest Day against the Germans, not in Sands. |

Kino's cover is based off this original Italian poster. I wish Kino kept the colors intact as I prefer them to the more yellowish hues theirs is using.
edit: I found the actual one they're basing it off of now. The first one I found (2nd pic below) had different colors so I thought Kino were the ones altering it, but they pretty much are using the exact same one as the top image. Quote:

Disney still has the chance to prove me wrong if they can get that 4k restoration of the original Planet of the Apes out on disc within the next two months. LMAO
But still crazy, considering Fox was pretty early to the game in releasing many of their older movies on Blu-ray. While their pre-1953-ish library isn't optimal for the 4k format in terms of what elements survive, plenty of their post widescreen movies would make for top notch 4k UHDs. |

One member in the John Wayne thread had high praise for it:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...4#post23050864 DVDBeaver also posted their review, though their screenshots are of the BD. Huge improvement over the Olive BD in any event. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film12/blu-...ima_4K_UHD.htm |
