I don't know, something seems way too low about that price. In the U.S., it will be about $90 when it comes out, which would be about, what, 50 pounds?

I agree, £16.99 for a 5 disc set? Maybe the price is wrong or the disc count is wrong?

Well, the Wizard of Oz is only £15.79 while the US version is $69.95 MSRP - they're just releasing the UK versions without all the "Limited Collector's Numbered Edition" and other trinkets. Which is why I'm buying the UK releases.

Although fingers crossed as I checked both Amazon UK and HMV UK and they don't have a listing with price up yet; play.com doesn't ship to North America.

Its a standard price because its a standard package. The US versions come with all sorts of extras that the UK doesn't.

It's come up at amazon for £15.79.

So you Yanks can order that and The Wizard of Oz in one order for a grand total of £31.53 shipping included, or about US$50.7.

Or you can order the US Ultimate Collector's Editions and pay $129.98.

Decisions, decisions...

You are right, that is an excellent price. Luckily, I took advantage of the WB Shop special and have orders in place for the Oz and GWTW Ultimate Editions plus others through that WBShop thing for the B2G1 special. Averaging out to about $35 per item if you count them all (though my GWTW order is with the LOTR set and the Woodstock set, and that order averaged out to $33 each).

I kind of like the extras in the Oz set, including the 2-DVD set of the 6 hr. documentary "MGM: When the Lion Roars" which doesn't appear to be part of the British set. And it will be interesting to see if the UK version of GWTW stays at 5 discs, when they have the Oz at 3 discs for the same price.

I'm anxious to know what will be in the GWTW set.

Bt I do agree it is a great price for those who don't want extras. Your Woodstock was the same way.

Oh, Grubert, one more thing, you mentioned the shipping was part of the total of £31.53, which looked funny at first since £15.79 x 2 would be slightly more (lol, mathematics works on this side of the Atlantic, too) plus the cost of shipping...but the reason for that is that because it is a pre-order, I notice if I put the items in my cart and do a test going to checkout, it lowers the price from £15.79 each to £13.73 each (about $22.11 each). (Of course, I should mention that that $50.7 could be different based on when they ship. Since if someone here in the U.S, orders them together to save a few dollars on combined shipping, Amazon will likely not send either until GWTW is available in November, it will be based on the exchange rate at that time, good or bad.)

No, it's not because it's a preorder, it's because VAT is deducted. Usually it isn't, because many BDs from amazon UK ship from its partner Indigostarfish in Jersey. But for some reason, these titles are shipping from amazon UK proper so VAT is deducted.

Ah.

I did think of something else that could be a problem. If the 5 discs do continue to be in the GWTW set and 1 DVD in the Pz set, if 3 or so happen to be DVDs they will likely be unplayable here in the U.S. because they will be PAL, I would think (unless one has a region free player for DVDs). So it really could be barebones for those who want just the movie and maybe some extras in HD.

I've received it today. It's a 2-disc set (not 3 as initially in initial cover art, let alone 5): a movie disc and an extras disc, in a double Amaray case with a slipcover.

Totally region free and NTSC friendly.

All in all, I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Hi. I have just done my first buy from overseas(GWTW) from amazon uk and just wanted to verify that what you are saying is correct. this seems to be the best deal overall for people that do not want the who;e package in the world, but I am afraid that I will not be able to play all the extras or see meanus as I would if bought in the states. thanks for your input and sorry if this sounds stupid.

Stop worrying - you will be able to play absolutely everything from both discs: movie, menus, extras, all. I have an imported US player at home and I have physically checked the GWTW discs on that.

Thanks so much for your feedback. Iwill be playing this on a region 1 player(panny 60) so you have made this buy a much better feel. Thanks again.

No problem, and welcome to the fascinating world of BD importing.

Note that amazon UK shipping costs work out better if you order several items at once.

Thanks. Yes I found out about that after I had ordered. Will keep that in mind next time I do order. And thanks again for relieving my fears of ordering this great movie.

I'm in the U.S. and have been ordering from Amazon UK for a few years now (hacked a cheap DVD player to play Region 2 DVDs). I got my blu-ray player a few months ago and read up on these forums and learned that many releases were region free.

Just got my first Region B blu-ray today - Bridget Jones Diary, one of my favorite movies, and it plays beautifully. I pre-ordered GWTW about 10 days ago and got an e-mail last week that it was delayed and will be shipping Nov. 23.

There is one other film that I really, really want - Dorian Gray, which I saw at the Toronto Film Festival and which has not been released in U.S. cinemas. It's being released in the U.K. in January; I am hoping that it will play on my blu ray player. The studio is Momentum Pictures.

It is very encouraging that this new technology is heading in the direction of region free!

That's awesome.

I ordered this last night. First BD I've ever imported. Glad to hear everything will play perfectly. Looks like this is definitely the version to get.
