Default Touching up a scartched Steelbook

Is there a way to touch up a scratched Steelbook? Maybe using automotive paint or something?

I recently aquired a Steelbook for well below the going rate and all in all in pretty good condition, except for some light scratches. The area where the scratches are located is mostly black (matte finish), so it's not like I'm trying to match up a ton of colors. I realize it probably won't look perfect, but if I can get even remotely close to the color of the Steelbook, it will look better than having these little silver marks showing through an otherwise mostly black Steelbook.

Just use a black magic marker to cover up the scratch marks since it's mostly black as the color where they are located. You could paint them over but the paint will peel off eventually so a black magic marker (permanent ink) is the best bet.

Do not ever use a sharpie for that purpose. Not ever. It has a horrible purple tint to it that sticks out like a neon sign.

Taking a tiny fine brush with some Testors or Tamiya flat black bottle paint would do the job and won't leave that purple tint Sharpies do.

Is there another brand that works better, or should markers just not be used at all?

I’ve touched up several of my black steelbooks with a Sharpie and do not have this issue.

Yes but paint over time will chip off it's not permanent like a sharpie. Never had any horrible purple tint come out of it if you get a quality black sharpie marker.

It happens when seen from specific angles in relation to light sources. However, I’d say that about 85% of the angles you look at it, the purplish tint will not be visible.

Personally, I still wouldn’t use a sharpie.

Same here. I think the oil based markers will be better or the copic ones.
