Default Suggestions for Insiders threads

We need a thread where we can ask insiders questions and get replies, nothing else.

Give it a title like 'Ask the Insiders:'

Just a thought, please continue the irrelevant babble.

How about a fully refereed Insiders Q&A thread, read-only to everyone but mods and insiders (you email a Q to the mods; if it isn't crap they post an edited version for insiders' consideration), with a separate free-for-all thread for commentary and discussion?

How about a "Trash from 'Ask the Insiders' " thread, into which the mods would move anything from the "Ask the Insiders" thread that wasn't a direct question to an insider or a post from an insider. This thread would be locked to new posts, so the only posts in there would be ones moved by the moderators. At the end of every week whoever has the most posts moved there wins a free one-month posting ban.

Mods, feel free to start that thread with this post.

I think its about time for a NEW professional Inside thread. All the insiders will be winding down soon from CES.

MODS

make this thread approved posts only, then when someone posts, either approve it or bin it. I think you can make a thread on its approved only, if not, create a subforum for it...it will save some arsepain trying to read it!

/off soapbox

I agree.

As far as THIS thread goes though, they threw in the towel on it long ago. I still think the new thread should require pm'd questions.

setting approved posts saves having to send a pm, you post as normal, but you dont see the post, the mods do, then they either bin it or approve it, nice and easy.

You do realize the astronomical work that would be required for that right? Approving or not approving each and every post.

They periodically go through and clean the thread up, so it would be about the same amount of work as that, right? Plus if they kept it squeaky-clean people would soon not even bother to try to post non-insider posts after a while, so the volume would drop. With the way it is, probably 3/4 people don't even realize that their post has been deleted, so it's not much discouragement.

Not if they implement a Digg-like rating system on this forum.

If its too much work cleaning for the mods, they will scrap this thread and start over with a new title. We are due for a new thread anyways. Don't get your panties bunched up over this.

Not sure how they do it. My guess would be they remove posts "older than" or "newer than" or some wild card. Approving posts means someone has to read every single one before they approve it. No way around it.

The only problem with this is that the insiders, when they're here and not working their butts off, seem to enjoy the casual interaction. You could be advocating a system that makes it less likely for them to come here because it becomes "work" and not "fun." But, as long as you have a few less posts to read, I guess that loss would be worth it right?

Realistically speaking, this thread is a bit out of control right now because we have no insiders. They're all working on the inside and can't come out to play. Once they get back home from CES, sober up and get some sleep (not necessarily in that order) I'm sure they'll be posting again and people will be again responding to their comments rather than trying to fill the void with their excitement and exuberance.

How about a companion discussion thread?

We have a somewhat innovative idea of how to handle the communication with the insiders. But before we realize it, we will create at least one new Insiders thread.
