I'm going to hazard a guess and say WB will only create 2k upconverts and not bother with a full on The Martian conversion to mostly genuine 4k (sans SFX shots that are upconverted before re-comping). There probably won't be Dolby Atmos remixes either.

They're one of the lazy studios.

In regards to Atmos, they're not lazy they just don't make it a habit of altering the sound post release and stay true to the theatrical release. Not in all cases but in most, if an Atmos remix didn't exist, its not getting one. And thats just fine.

As far as upscales, hopefully they have 4k DIs lying around.

I've heard a number of excellent Dolby Atmos remixes. If it improves things, why not?

Given the age of most of the Harry Potter films, I would doubt there are 4k DI's floating around. If this was Sony, maybe, but other studios have not been as quick to adopt 4k workflows as they aren't associated with an electronics company.

For sure, I would welcome more options I'm just saying it's not a deal breaker or a necessity. It's definitely not like Speed Racer's appalling 2.0 audio. On a damn Bluray!

I hope so. If they're trying to do a marketing tie-in, I can't think of a better opportunity. The good news is that WB's first release of Harry Potter flicks on Blu-ray was only a year and a half into the format's existence, so the relative infancy of UHD will hopefully not prompt them to hold off.

I remember reading a few years back commentary tracks were recorded for the movies for inclusion at a later date; as to who those participants were/are, the fact that WB is holding back content for future releases is promising and interesting to those of us who like listening to such supplement material.

Extended Editions for Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince would be nice too! They've always felt like they were missing some connective tissue.

Just as with Lord of the Rings where Warner didn't originally produce a DI for the first film (until the FOTR EE was released on BD a few years back) I don't think the studio started producing DI's for the Harry Potter series until Prisoner of Azkaban (2K). All going well we might get a new state of the art restoration in native 4K for at least the first two films. Maybe.

It won't matter because the SFX were rendered at 2k (and the first one maybe even less than). It was dumped from a digitally edited workflow back to film, so the resolution on the filmed scenes will already have taken a big hit.

It's not like the recent "old" days of all-film where 65mm or VistaVision (horizontal threaded 35mm) was used for the optical composite shots of real paintings and/or models in order to help with generational loss of resolution back to 35mm.

I'm curious with what IMAX worked with in terms of DMR mastering it's new IMAX'ed versions of 'Sorcerer's Stone' and 'Chamber of Secrets' as they were never originally theatrically released with such - I assume they uprezzed them

And added gobs of edge enhancement.
