Who Else Hates Universal Menus??

Okay. I admit I am a bit overly obsessed with design but can Universal try any less with their releases? Every single title has the exact same menu. It's not just on the interface but also on the back of their packaging. They must have only one lazy person working in their design department.

Am I the only one annoyed by this? I find the interface and pop-ups on Blu-ray to be part of the overall experience. Things are lessened when everything looks identical. They are offering true meaning to a "Universal" menu!! [see how I did that? ]





At start-up, they even have this language selection on just about every disc now!

Don't worry man, I agree 100%. I literally cringe whenever I see their BD menu.

I hate how the unrated versions are at the bottom I keep forgetting to select that first

The problem I've noticed with them is any of their movies that come with an unrated/extended version (i.e.-Forgetting Sarah Marshall), you have to click on "Go to Extended Version" at the bottom of the main menu. If you don't pay attention and just click on Play Movie when it first loads, you end up with the theatrical version.

How does anyone find something so pointless to complain about?

I actually LOVE the fact that Universal keeps it consistant and the same in terms of menu design and Blu-ray case design. It makes everything look organized and nice!

In fact, I wish every studio did the same!

I too like Universal's menus. The consistency makes it quick and easy to navigate.

Anyways, I kinda like Universal's menu because they are clean & easy to navigate except the fact that the clips that they show can ruin a movie if you're not careful. I popped in "The Thing" and I had never seen it before and those clips ruined some of the movie for me.

Stop showing spoilers on the menu and I will be happy

No, I actually like Universal's consistent menu structure. It looks much more professional than Sony's BD-Live interface, which looks like it took all of 15 seconds to design (and considering how long it takes the thing to load, I'm guessing some of that 15 seconds was used to but together the inefficient Java code it's using).

Now what I really have a problem with is people who slap too many images into a post....

It reminds me of BD cover art.. the studios just copy and paste. The only difference between the DVD and BD is the obnoxious silver curve mentioning the movie is in HD.

Agreed completely. I'm not hating on them, especially since the transfers contained within have been so consistently great. This is what matters to me.

Pointless is subjective. My life revolves around art and design. It is part of my profession. At its very core, great movie making celebrates the artistic value in audio and visual. The menus are simply an extension of this experience. Would you find it pointless if Universal started releasing all of their movies in paper sleeves with only the title of the movie printed on the front in Times New Roman font?

To each their own, of course. But for people who enjoy design and appreciate the little things in life, the template menus are a disappointment.
