I'm sure this is an issue that's been brought up countless times, yet I'm still unable to find a straight answer.
Some websites like CNET claim that, "Many TVs automatically set their backlights to maximum to show HDR content." Other websites like RTINGS.com claim that 50 (or right in the middle) is the best way to watch HDR content, even lowering it to as low as 27 (out of 100) in a dark room. I find 27 to be unwatchable as the image is way too dark, even in a dark room. Reading forums, I've also heard a wide array of answers, from 40 to 50 to 75 to max backlight for HDR. I'm aware that the "best" setting is the setting that looks best to my eyes. That said, I'd still like to set it at what is best or recommended for the content. I have a 2018 Vizio P-Series 65" (which I love, by the way. The picture is phenomenal). I watch UHD Blu-ray's mostly in a dark room setting. I usually keep the backlight at 50. I had to train my eyes to get used to that as I initially thought it was too dark, before I had it around 65-70. What do you have for your backlight settings for HDR? |
