Bustin' Loose (1981)

Does anyone have any thoughts about this 1981 Richard Pryor comedy? I understand it had a troubled production.

Most of the movie was shot in 1979, but filming quickly stopped when Pryor accidentally set himself on fire during a drug-related mishap and severely burned his skin. The movie was re-shot in February-March 1981 with new scenes, replacing some scenes from the original cut. I know some deleted scenes were featured in the network TV version.

The fire incident occurred while Pryor was filming Stir Crazy, June of 1980. Years after it occurred, Pryor admitted he had set himself on fire deliberately.

That's a shame. Must have been going through some depression, but upon success of the release of Stir Crazy, Universal wanted to finish Bustin' Loose and release it as a tie-in.

This is the best late Richard Pryor's movie and I still own Universal DVD and still waiting release Blu-ray... one of Richard Pryor another film Blue Collar coming to Blu-ray from Kino coming soon.

Hoping neither Universal release themselves, Shout Select or Kino will release it.

It's one of the better Pryor films, along with his Wilder team-ups and Brewster's Millions, and I'd get it on Blu-ray if released
