Anybody know why this movie has never been released on Blu-ray? I have fond memories of it being a very sweet and enjoyable watch. I think I probably last watched it during mail-order DVD rental days, or maybe when it was showing on cable/satellite many years ago.

I would like to watch it with my family, but not only is the DVD out of print and very expensive, it is not available to stream anywhere.

Interestingly, I found a single Blu-ray for sale on eBay. It looks rather legit, although the product images are low quality so it's hard to really tell. It's eBay item 146597750210 from seller sbre7-27. He also has some other hard-to-impossible to find Blu-ray titles from the 80's, such as "Splash" and "Lucas".

You think the disc the guy is selling on eBay is some kind of special print that was made for a particular occasion?

It's a MOD BD-R disc. It's not legit and they have inflated the price. There was never an official Blu-ray release of this film.

Yeah. I know which seller is being mentioned because I've seen some of those listings. It's a guy who shows his dirty fingernails and disorganized house in every listing. All of the back covers have the same looking template. 'MOD' is code for bootleg. It's most likely just being printed from home and the guy is lying about the source by claiming they're overseas imports, yet there is no evidence of them having a legitimate release anywhere in the world. People like him are essentially running a small criminal empire.

They buy them from an online seller that makes them MOD BD-R and than flips them for profit. Not going to post any sites or whatever to help out those kind of sellers. A simple google search for the movie on Blu-ray will show them. If you must buy at your own risk. eBay should not allow those kind of listings.

Again there has never been a Blu-ray release of Only The Lonely so these are not legit.

In many ways this kind of piracy is the fault of the studios themselves. If they would just make these titles available to boutique labels these people would not be able to make as much profit as they are. People want these movies in their collections and have to resort buying a MOD burned copy. Of course they don't have to but people are taking advantage of the studios carelessness. Only The Lonely is a Fox title so it's likely with Disney. We all know Disney could care less about licensing titles out.

Kino Lorber for instance would definitely have put this out on Blu-ray if they were able to license it from Disney. This is not available for streaming either. Again it's the studios incompetence and carelessness and people just take advantage of it. No reason at all Disney can't license some of the Fox catalog out they just could care less.

It's a Fox movie, hence, its now owned by Disney.
