It looks like Scarlett Johansson may get her own solo film for her Black Widow character!

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed that discussions are already in the works to have Scarlett Johansson reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff in a Black Widow spinoff film, though the project will take a backburner while The Avengers is in development.

"We've already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts," said Feige in a press conference today, "but The Avengers comes first."

Johansson is expected to reprise her role as the character in the ensemble film, heading into production with Joss Whedon at the helm and planned for a summer 2012 release.

I dunno how good of an idea this is, there have to be more popular heroes out there than her but I'm always up for Scarlett in tight clothing kicking butt.

ISTR, that's what we all said back during "Ehh, Daredevil was okay, but I'd rather see a whole MOVIE of Elektra kicking butt!"

Electra was decent from what I remember.

I haven't seen Elektra and probably never will, I've hated the parts of Cat Woman I've seen and I doubt Black Widow would be more than a cheap blind buy for me.

Black Widow is one of Marvels oldest female characters and has had her own comic on and off since the 1960's. And now has a current run. I'm not sure about SJ as BW in a stand alone movie but BW the character is interesting enough to warrent a movie. Certainly a much more interesting character than Elektra.

Actually she could be the bridge between the higher power player and the Street crime characters. You guy bring up Catwoman and Electra but I'll raise you a kill bill which was basically Electra done right. She has potential..

Wow, seems like nobody thinks it could possibly be a good film. A Black Widow solo film is not high on my list, but espionage films can be quite good.

I enjoyed Scarlett Johansson's performance for the most part, but there was one shot where her body movements looked robotic when she delivered a line.

It's really to bad that they are looking at a spin off for a minor character so quickly, but they couldn't get a sequel to The Incredible Hulk.

thing to keep in mind comparing this to Elektra or Catwoman: this will be a Marvel Studios production. so far they havent really screwed anything up yet.
i personally think a Black Widow movie (if done right) has great potential to be awesome. if they turn Bucky into Winter Soldier he would make a great villain for it considering their background.

Black Widow is not that big of a character to have her own movie, at least that's what I think. What kind of story could they possibly have worth telling?

shes basically a female James Bond, theres endless stories to be told.
if its an origin prequel or something theres a lot to tell there too.

I remember when Scarlett was chosen to play Black Widow not too many people thought she was a good choice (well she was really the second choice after Emily Blunt turned the role down). Minus the non-existent Russian accent and not too many speaking parts, I thought she was great as Natasha/Black Widow in the action scenes...so did the guy sitting next to me in the theater who kept saying "daaaaammm" everytime she was on the screen.

Right now the movie is only in discussion, but I hope it gets made and Scarlett is available to reprise her role. I'll wait until then to pass judgement.

It was horrible.

Anyways, a BW film could work. I would rather see a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, but this will work great. Hottest woman in Hollywood + leather outfits + comic book movie = WIN.

If they could make her like Selene, just without the supernatural powers, I guess it could work. Just not sure how many people want to see a female version of James Bond, what's next, an Agent 99 movie?

I'm honestly all for it, Black Widow is a great character that I would really like to see more of, and there are endless stories to tell with her. Plus Scar Jo in leather is ok with me...
