United Kingdom The Official Works Film Group Thread

Looks like UK distributor The Works are deciding to upgrade some of their back catalogue to Blu-ray. Listings for the following have just popped up on Amazon:

24 Hour Party People (Michael Winterbottom, 2002) https://www.amazon.co.uk/24-Hour-Par...r+party+people
Shortbus (John Cameron Mitchell, 2006) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shortbus-Bl...words=shortbus
Land and Freedom (Ken Loach, 1995) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Land-Freedo...reedom+blu+ray
2 Days in Paris (Julie Delpy, 2007) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Days-Paris-...+paris+blu+ray
A Prairie Home Companion (Robert Altman, 2006) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Prairie-Hom...home+companion

I'm particularly up for the Altman and Loach, and never actually saw 24 Hour Party People so be interested to see that too. I wonder if these will actually be decent Blu-rays or hit and miss like Film4's initial foray into the format.

Let's hope they will upgrade Richard Linkater's Bernie at some point, and perhaps some others too (Rolf De Heer's Ten Canoes, David Lowery's Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Bobcat Goldthwaite's The World's Greatest Dad).

I really hope they do a good job on these!

More Altman is always a winner. Now, where's a good transfer of Gosford Park?!

Still wondering this. Presumably the rights are with Universal, but can anyone get hold of a decent master?

I'd also love UK editions of The Player and Short Cuts, and don't really care who releases them at this point (obviously Criterion, MoC or Arrow would be the most likely candidates). And of course we're still waiting for Criterion to announce McCabe & Mrs. Miller for the UK.

PS: Arrow said they had more Altman planned, but haven't announced anything - could it be Thieves Like Us, A Wedding, maybe even Quintet or Buffalo Bill?

I love 24 Hour Party People but it's mostly SD DV isn't it? The original 2 disc DVD was great in terms of content, I'm hoping 15 years down the line they can improve the picture. I remember seeing this at the cinema, pretty ugly looking on a big screen.

A Prairie Home Companion is truly great late Altman movie, i wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. Can't wait to own that one!

I've not seen A Prairie Home Companion, but a late-career Altman I wouldn't mind seeing Indicator try their hand at is Dr. T and the Women (being a Sony title). No masterpiece, but reckon there could be some interesting potential for extras...it's quite a nice, light Altman from memory, and features a great cast (MVP is Laura Dern of course).

24 Hour Party People has an already planned US release (no confirmed date as yet)

Wonder if they'll include
[Show spoiler] That awful out take with John Simm's awful Bernard Sumner impression when Joy Division and Rob G meet with Tony Wilson to tell him they are carrying on as New Order a scene that is set in 1980 but filmed in the Dry Bar (opened years later) and with Trams being seen in the back ground that didn't exist until a decade later
as an extra

Give me Land and Freedom anytime on a decent blu.

It looks like these aren't happening. It's a shame really. It's strange to announce a number of forthcoming Blu-ray releases but then go completely quiet

The Works and its catalogue got bought out by Kaleidoscope a year or so ago, so if anyone's likely to happen, it'll be by them.
