I occasionally get a loud, what I call digital pop, in my speakers.
I've had the BD30 for a week or so now and it's happened twice. Does anyone know, is this caused by something in the player, the receiver, or on the disc? I feed the 5.1 audio to the receiver as bitstream with the coax. |

I get two digital pops in my speakers at the same points in time every time I load MidnightClub 3 - Remix PS2 game into my PS3. My PS3 connected with HDMI cable to my Sony STR-DG1000. I think it is caused by that PS2 game disk.

Mine is a 7 year old Marantz SR780.
I had it with my old SD setup maybe once or twice a year. But with the new BD30, I had it happen once two nights in a row. The noise is a loud snap, I'm surprised it doesn't blow out a driver. |

Not while changing formats. It happens in the middle of a movie while it's simply playing along.

This happened to me before I got my DB30 with the old Toshiba 4700 SD player, but only maybe once or twice a year. I assume it's some sort of digital stream interruption. It would be nice to know where it's getting interrupted.

I hear a load pop also occasionally while playing Blu-ray movies. I have a marantz SR780 and the 80Gb PS3. They are connected through an optical cable. It is very annoying but it only happens once in a while and not even at the same points in the movies.
Would anyone have any ideas? I am thinking it is the receiver for some reason but I haven't been able to do any testing considering I cannot duplicate the pop realiably. PS3 is set to Dolby Digital and the movies are being played back in 5.1. I just hope it doesn't hurt anything ![]() |

I'm having the same problem with my 60GB PS3 via HDMI to my Sony receiver. It does it during BDs and did it last night watching Help! on SD. Someone else told me it might be the HDMI cable. I'm going to swap mine out when my order is delivered. I'll let you know if that was it.

Hmmm I never thought about it coming from my sub. I have a fairly nice boston acoustic VR2000? I dont remember the model off the top of my head for sure. Interesting thought though

I heard awhile ago that especially with optical - a little less with coax, that you need to shut down all other sources in the system that aren't needed to be running. Tape deck... CD player... etc. That's supposed to reduce the digital pop. It stems from other sources that can bleed (crosstalking) from their analog inputs going into the receiver and bugger the digital signal up. Can't confirm that myself but there you have it. It's usually a fault of cheaper receivers they say but maybe that's an excuse. Try it and see if it helps.

hmmm interesting thought with the crosstalk. It is weird though that it is almost nonexistent in everything but playing Blu-rays.
![]() I wish the PS3 had a coax output so I could try/use that but it doesn't ![]() I plan on upgrading the receiver eventually to one that can accept the HDMI for dolby true HD etc... just cant do it right now ![]() |

This can happen whether you're watching DVDs or regular TV. It's the signal locking in at times that causes that. I've never heard of a work-around for it. I called Bose When I bought my system 5 years ago because mine does the same thing randomly and asked about that and I don't think there's a good answer for it. Of course, now that you have a better quality source, Blue Ray, the pop will be more prominent.
