1. Drive
2. Scott Pilgrim vs the World 3. The Social Network 4. Filth 5. Inside Llewyn Davis 6. Toy Story 3 7. Interstellar 8. In Bruges 9. Kingsman: The Secret Service 10. Inglourious Basterds Honourable mentions; Cornetto Trilogy (tried to keep it to one film per director), Mad Max: Fury Road, Seven Psychopaths, Frank, Gone Girl, 28 Days Later, The Room ( [emoji6] ), Calvary. Not really satisfied with it, but I think the only way I would be satisfied is if I was allowed to do a top 100 or something. ![]() Also tried to keep it one film per filmmaker, just so I have a lot of different stuff. |

1. Mulholland Dr 2001
2. Mulholland Dr 2001 3. Mulholland Dr 2001 4. Mulholland Dr 2001 5. Mulholland Dr 2001 6. Mulholland Dr 2001 7. Mulholland Dr 2001 8. Mulholland Dr 2001 9. Midnight In Paris 2011 10. Almost Famous 2000 ![]() In all seriousness, I like a fair amount of films since 2000, but the three above would be the ones that are far and away the best that I've seen this century. Mulholland Dr, especially, is probably the one film from this century that could easily sit beside the "great artistic works" of the 20th century. Thus my poor attempt at humor by listing it so often. ![]() While I'm not one of those who believes great film is "dead" or great films can't arise, I do find that with the exception of the three above, or the exception of a great romance or historical film, most films from the century thus far do not seem to have the kind of "magic and craft" that was more commonplace in the previous century. They may be well-crafted films for those who enjoy them, or great-crafted films for the 2000's, but I certainly don't mistake them for Vertigo, The Exorcist, or La Dolce Vita. ![]() Not that my taste is anything to brag about... ![]() Last edited by Popcorn_Bliss; 08-31-2016 at 01:31 AM. |

Other than the top spot, this is going to be very difficult. Here's my preliminary list. I reserve the right to make changes, when (not if) I realize that I left out something obvious.
Also, I'm going to go with Foggy's approach of keeping it to one film per director. I mean, half my list would be Fincher films otherwise. ![]() Again, other than the top spot, I haven't decided on an order yet. Mulholland Dr. Tree of Life The Neon Demon The Social Network Black Swan Her Carol Spring Breakers Dogville Blue Valentine |

This might be interesting...
Downfall, The Lives of Others and at least one of the Dragon Tattoos will likely make the list but it's going to be hard deciding on the rest. They might not make them exactly like they used to but they still make some pretty damn good ones. edit: Carlos The Lives of Others Let the Right One In Nightcrawler The Other Guys The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) The Lego Movie Melancholia Downfall Ex Machina Last edited by octagon; 08-31-2016 at 03:37 AM. |
