Season 1 DVD collection was prophetic. If said in the flyer that DVD was the best way to watch the Simpsons; until a better format comes along. Finally, a better format has come along.

good news as I was surprised season 12 that came out on DVD in august wasn't also on bluray (what with FOX's tendency to put their TV shows out on blu)

But at the rate of these releases season 20 won't be out for another 4 or 5 years (based on 2 seasons a year) isn't this a little early to get excited?

So they are releasing season 20 home video before seasons 13-19? That doesn't make much sense...and I don't think it's correct. There's no press release, no release date and no information available.

Possibly a placeholder page gone awry on Amazon?

i think they will start doing a new season with a old season 20/13 21/14 since they are 8 seasons behind

now that its in hd i dont think they will wait to release 8 more seasons on dvd to put the hd seasons out on bluray especially since they only do like 1 maby 2 a year

Not necessarily. I also buy seasons of Law and Order:SVU. At 1 point they skipped about 4 seasons and put out the newest season. Then over time they filled in the gap. Just another possibility.

This is just great. The new episodes in true high-definition look great, and it looks like the writers are trying to take advantage of the better animation to throw in more sight gags.

I'm happy to hear this. And as cartman781 pointed out, studios sometimes release seasons out of order on home video. Another example is Frasier, who's final season came out before the rest of the series was on DVD, even though the first few seasons were out.

The Simpsons is the kind of thing I would not replace DVDs with Blu-Rays for. It's TV animation and remastering it in HD is only going to make all of the flaws more evident. If they release the seasons I don't have on Blu-Ray, I'll pick those up instead of the DVD, but I'm not going to fork over an extra $40 per season to have them in HD. It's not Lost.

So what will they do with the first several episodes of the season? Those were made in standard definition so they'll probably just be upscaled episodes. I hope the price reflects this.

I doubt most of the episodes would ever be brought to bluray and from season 14 on the show was drawn completely Digitally at a native resolution of 480i.
So in order for any episodes from seasons 14-the first half of broadcast season 20 (the official end of production season 19) they would need to be re-drawn at higher resolution. Also Im curious as to how much better simpsons will look on blu-ray over broadcast since the show is currently animated digitally using 720p as the native resolution.

Additionally Amazon doesnt put up a pre-order price until they recieve an MSRP from the manufacturer which insures the product will be coming soon.
Probably February or March would be my best guess. Fox has barely begun to
announce its January releases. Give it time.

I can't remember the last time i laughed while watching the simpsons. I've almost completely given up on the show and it used to be the greatest thing in the world to me. Seasons 3 to about 9 were pure gold.

Up to season 10 the show was all hit and no miss, then from season 11-14 there was an even number of hits and misses. Season 15-17 were loaded with misses and is when most fans abandoned the show, but Season 18 saw an improvement and that improvement has incread over seasons 19 and 20. We're in season 21 now and honestly the show is in a new age of greatness

Of course "when" the simpsons went downhill and whether or not the newest episodes are good is up for opinion, but i think the show has gotten a new spark since the movie hit in 2007 and even more noticible when they went HD (maybe the change in format ignited the passion in the animators and writers that had become stale in the early 2000's)

As for this whole bluray debate, it would be nice if we got official word, It would be nice to see the show switch imediatly to blu with season 13s release, but as we all know it won't be until season 20 that we would see the show take full advantage of blu

Either way i guess this means my Simpsons collection is not going to match up anymore, what with the smaller Bluray packaging (FOX also uses keep casees for there TV shows so odds are thats what we'll get season 20 in)

I admit, i haven't seen but a handful of episodes in the past 2-3 years, but the ones i have seen have barely elicited a chuckle or two. I will continue to give it chances though, such is my loyalty to her.

I think the last few seasons have been much better than the wretched shows that dominated the teen seasons of Simpsons. The writers in those seasons just threw random jokes at the viewer with little coherent plot. It was clearly a move away from the finely crafted shows from the better years. The newest episodes have been much better in this regard, trying to frame the jokes around plots that at least make cartoon sense.

I think fatigue set in as the show reached it's decade mark and then a sense of comfort set in (Simpsons was a hit, so the show staff could produce anything at that point and assumed fans would watch), other things that caused the teen seasons to wain included some of the creative staff leaving for other projects (mainly to futurama, but also a few left to work for Pixar, or start thier own shows) as well as the constant work on the simpsons movie, which slowly was in development for about a decade and in which everyone wanted to make the best it could be and therefore devoted most of their creative talent

But I think after the movie was done and it was a huge sucess, it revitalized the staff and they started coming up with more creative stories, plus the fact that when family guy came back and FOx offered Seth macfarlane 2 other shows the simpsons staff realized they had more animated competition then they did before (in the 90's it was really only King of the hill and south park that offered any solid competition in terms of critically accepted animated shows)

I don't remember the early seasons blowing me away on DVD back when DVD was newish. I can't imagine there is any value to pre-season 20 coming to blu-ray - not even to save space.

I was under the impression that all season before season 20 would still be released on DVD with no BD counterpart. It would take them forever to remaster, or just simply transfer these to blu. I've been a collector since season 1 came out and I just don't wanna do the upgrade. We're talking about 12 already released seasons.
