Finally!!! I saw a Jackie triple feature last year and Miracles was his selection. He did an in-person in Q&A after. So good!

With this and Dragons Forever will complete my list of JC films that I want on blu-ray; true HD, I mean. I have the upscale. But, please don`t screw this up, 88.

I'm hoping with these films being newer / higher profile movies than the likes of TKWI and Dragon Fist, the masters will be in much better shape to begin with, so will hopefully look much better.

88 mentioned that the masters for these were night and day compared to the JC titles they’ve released so far.

Also just to reiterate for those that are unaware of how Fortune Star works, most of the time who ever licenses the films are not allowed touch the film. So they are generally released as they are received. It sucks when it comes through with some weird grading or DNR but it is what it is unfortunately. The only one that really bums me out is the Battle Creek Brawl stretched image. I feel like that could have been fixed.

Are there various cuts of this film too? I'm not as familiar with this one as some of Jackie's others.

The HKL DVD mentions that it has "extra footage not available in the international print".

According to https://www.movie-censorship.com/list.php?s=miracles

- Uncut HK version
- Chinese extended version (4 min longer)
- Export/international version (21 min shorter)
- Japanese version (9 min shorter)

It's just the normal Hong Kong version (I have it).

They said something similar for their release of 'Armour of God'.

4K was a surprise to me, but it is welcome and probably justified given the visual (a lot was spent on production - see this).

I don't know how Fortune Star determines scanning resolution - does anyone have general insight?

Is anyone aware of a version featuring the international English dub with the HK edit?

What's the dub on the HKL DVD? Not the one you're after?

Jackie's masterpiece, and probably my favourite film of his overall. Absolutely cannot wait for this – it should look beautiful in 4K.

My understanding is this:

Hong Kong English title: 'Mr Canton and Lady Rose'
International English title: 'Miracles'

I'm assuming 'Black Dragon' was a title introduced by Columbia TriStar for their re-issue (what was the reason?), but I'm thinking 'The Canton Godfather' was only used for UK VHS releases in the early 90s, and has since been adopted by Fortune Star for their remaster - possibly erroneously.

Would anyone disagree, or can fill me in?

The Chinese title literally translates to 'Miracle', so I wonder why they bother with the other alternative titles. Miracles should be an appropriate and simple enough title in my opinion

It's partly about trying to understand the history and representing as intended.

I do think that the multitude of titles doesn't help, and that 'Miracles' probably would have sufficed, though 'Mr Canton and Lady Rose' is a bit more elegant.

In 2006 Nordic region had 6 JC movies released on DVD, and one of them was titled "The Canton Godfather":

Basically the same as the UK disc few years earlier:

That all sounds about right.
