Default Michael Jackson's Thriller might be coming to Blu-Ray at some point and in 3D

Director John Landis has been talking about Thriller 3D for some time now but nothing has been officially confirmed by Michael Jackson's Estate. He said last year that they have scanned the original negative in 4K and are making 3D conversion of it:

Around 7:17.

Also Landis was asked about Thriller at some radio show not long ago and he said that something has a world premiere at a very famous film festival this summer:

https://streamable.com/yl16t

I'm really excited about this. Not about the 3D aspect but we might be getting Thriller on Blu-Ray at some point in the future. Hopefully with all the other music videos too.

Thriller on blu, especially from a 4K scan, would make my year!

That would be great, but I really, REALLY hope they include the "making of thriller" documentary as well. I must've watched that special 500 times as a kid. Also really hoping someday we get a proper official release of any and all tours of Michael and his brothers between 1978-1984.

Yeah Making of Thriller would be a great extra. I hope they release Victory Tour concert at some point. Also Bad Tour definitely needs a Blu-Ray release:

I'm iffy about that clip. I've seen WAAAAYYYYY too many supposed 'remastered" clips of Michael Jackson stuff (be it Moonwalker, or his music videos) and they all look different in regards of quality, color timing, aspect ratio...etc... And we all know Michael has a huge fanbase to this day, with a small sub-group of them being hardcore fans that will do a lot of things making stuff up and lying (Like if that clip is actually from an upcoming blu-ray, an already released blu-ray but only in Eurpoe/Asia or whatever, or if it's just fan made).

Looks great, don't get me wrong, but I still prefer the full 4:3 AR/color timing I grew up with.

Finally!!!! i've been wanting a decnet transfer of Thriller and in 1:85:1 for years we've been stuck with the same dark muddy transfer for 20+ years and only in 4:3.

That Man in the Mirror live video is from Moonwalker Blu-Ray:

I have it and it looks amazing. Yeah the color timing is different but it looks great in my opinion. I hope they still have all the film footage from the concerts so they can release them some day. They did film full concerts on Bad Tour:

'Michael Jackson's Thriller 3D' to Premiere at Venice Film Festival:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...m-fest-w496275

Quote:
"I am so happy to have had the chance not only to restore but enhance Michael Jackson's Thriller," Landis said in a statement. "We took full advantage of the remarkable advances in technology to add new dimensions to both the visual and the audio bringing it to a whole new level. Even though Thriller was shot traditionally, I was able to use the 3-D creatively. Let me just warn you, there is a rather shocking surprise in there."
So this is real. I hope we see some kind of Blu-Ray release at some point. It needs to have a lot of content. I don't think I would pay a lot to get just one short film.

How awesome as it may seems, isn't Thriller a bit too dark to be enjoyed in 3D?
Would still love to see it though,

There is much stuff Michael Jackson did that I like to see remastered.

Captain EO
Bad
You Rock My World and especially Stan Winston's Ghosts.

We can only hope...I ranted on Reddit a while back about what we MJ fans deserve in terms of the short films...maybe this is the first step?

Hopefully they'll release both the documentary and short film in blu-ray.

Even though it was shot on a phone. You can tell how much better it looks than the same crappy no-anamorphic version we've been stuck with for 30 years.

Roll on the BD release.

From michaeljackson.com:

Quote:
The Halloween take-over doesn’t stop there! We know everyone will enjoy the new short films, “Blood on the Dance Floor 2017” and “Blood on the Dance Floor X Dangerous” that feature Michael’s footage from his original short films. And next year, we intend to add a release of “Thriller 3D” or “Ghosts 3D” in movie theaters around the world as part of the annual celebration.
https://michaeljackson.com/michael-jackson-faq/

It looks like we have to wait for the Blu-Ray release. I don't see it happening before 2019. I'm glad that they plan to restore Ghosts. They should just make all the short films HD.

This version is true to the original cinema release but we lose some of the picture from top and bottom.

When I was a kid I had "The Making of Thriller", "Moonwalker", and "Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues" all recorded on one tape, and wore that thing out. Only threw it away about 12 years ago when I bought the actual copies of all 3 off ebay. This would obviously be a day 1 buy.

The blu should be pretty straight forward. They can remaster the original making off which was shot in 16mm. Include a handful of deleted scenes from the making off and include a new retrospective with Landis, Baker and Ola Ray and any of the dancers.

If they put out a Thriller and Ghosts 3D Blu-Ray, I hope they can make a deal with Disney and put Captain EO on there as well.

I have to believe a Blu-ray of, not only this, but all of his videos is inevitable. All shot on film. Many amongst the best videos ever made. Scorsese’s Bad would look phenomenal.

There’s a big market for releasing all of these to fans in at least 1080p, fully restored.

All MJ's short films since Beat It were shot in 35mm,. I really hope they will restore them from the ocn in 4K just like thriller.
