Default The Ladykillers (2004)

Today I received in the mail Burn After Reading, the last Coen brothers movie available on Blu-Ray that I needed for my collection. However, The Ladykillers, still hasn't been announced. I know that the reviews for this movie weren't the best but there are far worse out there that got the upgraded treatment. I would think there would be some demand for this since I know I'm not the only one waiting to finish their Coen collection. Any chance of this happening? Anyone know any details why it hasn't yet? I find it a bit odd considering Tom Hanks is a big name and the Coens are pretty famous as far as name recognition goes.

I too would love a Blu-Ray of this movie and wanted to give a bump to this thread. I prefer it over Intolerable Cruelty and even that got a Blu-Ray re-release. I'll take a misguided Coen Bros. film over most of the current blockbuster films any day.

It being with Disney/Touchstone doesn't help matters. Although I was already a fan of the original movie with Alec Guinness, this re-make is still pretty good, and Tom Hanks is always excellent.

Yea, I haven't seen this one since it's release and would certainly like to give it another look all these years later.

It’s just criminal this movie has not seen a Blu Ray release. All I can say is “Left my wallet in El Segundo!” Hmpf...

With all of the terrible reviews, and the hate against this film, I was really bracing myself for a 2 hour cringe-fest when I first put it on. Low and behold... now I absolutely adore it. It gets better with every viewing as well. This is one that people are going to look back on and re-evaluate some day. The Coens really are geniuses. People that love Raising Arizona and hate this film need to take a step back and re-evaluate their critical eye. What the Coens have done is create two masterwork cartoons, with live action actors. Every single one of the 6 main roles is incredible in this film. I'll be purchasing this on day one, which I hope happens very soon. I dream of the day we get a Criterion release. I think that would get the critical re-evaluation conversation started.

I think the performances in "Ladykillers" are all strong, especially Hanks, but I wouldn't compare it to "Raising Arizona". Every character in "Ladykillers" is either sociopathically selfish or irredeemably stupid, and several are both. I enjoy it, but I think the least likeable human character in "Arizona" is more likeable than anybody in "Ladykillers", and even Tex Cobb is given a moment of humanity that there's nothing like in "Ladykillers".

TL is hilarious - one of the Coen Brothers' & Tom Hanks' best films. I saw this theatrically & remember laughing my head off - very funny. The TH character definitely reminded me of KFC's Colonel Sanders Great story as well.

Either right before - or right after - I saw this 2004 version, I watched the original UK version (with Alec Guiness & Peter Sellers, among others)- and found it very bland by comparison. IMHO, this excellent 2004 version is one of those cases where the re-make was better than the original.

I feel the same way about the Coen's fantastic version of True Grit (2010) - but that's another thread.

God, it really annoys me to see films under Buena Vista. It just lets me know that there's almost no chance in hell it'll get a release. Maybe Kino could do it, but I'm not hopeful for a release of this. Shame too, cause it's a highly underrated Coen bros film.

This has like no Blu-ray release anywhere on the planet, just nonsensical. Coen Brothers, Tom Hanks, should be good enough for a BD. Anyone know for sure who has distribution rights, is it Disney?
