Quote:
Jerry Blake (Terry O'Quinn, ABC's Lost) is a man obsessed with having the perfect American Dream life - including the house with the white picket fence in the suburbs, complete with an adoring wife and loving children. He believes he's found it when he marries Susan Maine and becomes the stepfather to Susan's 16-year-old daughter, Stephanie. But Stephanie gets an uneasy feeling when she is around Jerry with his Father Knows Best attitude - she can see that there is a darker side behind his cheerful exterior... Could she just be going through the typical teenager rebellion against her new stepfather, or could he be the same man who brutally murdered his family just one year earlier?

Wishlist title for me and I almost pulled the trigger on the BD. This film is totally underrated.

This is one of those weird situations where I saw the 2009 remake first, and now actually prefer it in some ways to the 1987 original film. The '09 remake has that Ted Bundy-esque creepy charmer quality to its lead role. I welcome both films equally on 4k. Then again, I think the '09 flick is a Sony jam, so little to no chance of seeing that on uhd, I'd assume.

Honestly, this is one of those franchises where i only care about the first film much like Sleepaway Camp and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I get it though for those who want to complete the set.

It's really a shame, the sequels are pretty solid. III suffered a lot from Terry's departure but it's so crazy and gory.

I prefer the original, but I usually give the 2009 remake a couple watches each year. Always have a good time with it.

The whole series is worthwhile. Even part 3.

Eh.... the remake is just kind of bland. What gives the original a boost is the time it was made. I'm not a person that rages at the thought of "family values" but it fits right into the era in a way that the remake does not. Plus, O'Quinn is just a better actor.

To this day, whenever I see Terry O'Quinn in anything all I can think of is his role in The Stepfather. I've seen him in countless films and TV series (including, of course, as John Locke in LOST) so I'm glad he wasn't pigeonholed as a crazed maniac lol.

Love how that artwork looks surrounded in black. Black goes a whole lot better with Blu-ray/4K art than standard blue. My copy has so much shelf wear that I might need to replace it with a fresh case when I decide to unload it.

I read posts about the sequels will probably not be released on BD due to scans lost issues. I think the second film got a BD release in Germany so not sure why they couldn’t just use similar quality from the German release.
