Default Ramayana (TV Series) releasing on Blu-ray

OMG!!! Seems we are definitely getting same DVD quality on Blu-ray. Releasing on Blu-ray is just to decrease the number of discs only.
Sampoorna Ramayan is listed on Amazon India, releasing on January 30, 2015

^What were you expecting? A series shot in videotape is not going to look like HD regardless of what medium you encode it in.

The only way the quality would be improved is if they went back to the original tapes and re-constructed the episodes. The edited episodes would have been a generation down from the original tapes. But I'm sure those tapes are long gone, and they'd never go through all that trouble.

I am expecting better quality than DVD we already have. Changing format without upgrade in quality doesn't make sense to me. This is same like DVD quality files burned on BDs, it is not worth (IMHO).

That is different thing we can access more episodes on same disc. By the way, they have also offered some freebies like Sundarkand Book and 3D Photo Frame along with the BD Set.

You can't get quality that never existed in the first place. As I understand videotapes are even inferior to the 480p that you get on DVD - Betacam horizontal res is 340 lines (If what I am stating is wrong, people who know please correct me). No amount of upscaling is going to make this look anywhere like HD. LIke you yourself said, the only advantage the blu-ray format gives is the storage capacity to have much fewer discs. Hopefully also the blu-ray disc will be a little more robust in make than DVD.

I have Mahabharatha 19 dvds , bought the bluray and checking now

So both sets (Ramayana & Mahabharatha) are pretty bad - DVD-quality?

Both the series were shot on videotape, even with upscaling you cannot make them look like HD. The advantage of blu-ray is that you can have a much more compact package thanks to BD's greater storage capacity.
