Posted this originally in the 4K section of the forum, since it is technically a 4K LCD, but figured I'd also dump it here to see if I can get some additional assistance...
My Samsung UN65NU8000 is six months old and has given us nothing but problems from the beginning, mainly in the form of a malfunctioning HDMI board that refuses to remember input labels or incoming resolution information (the display will indicate it's on HDMI 1 when it's actually on HDMI 2 and also provide wrong information about the name of those inputs) which no manner of factory resets fixed. The unit would also turn itself on in the middle of the night for no reason (we don't have any smart devices in our home, nor nothing that would account for the television turning itself on), evidenced when I would come down in the morning and find the power on when I turned it off the night before. The remote also refused to work from time to time. Samsung sent out some techs from a local place near me today to look at the issue, and they ended up replacing the entire main board of the unit. But, lo and behold, once they left, the same problem persisted with the television not remembering the HDMI input names and all sorts of other issues, including factory default settings that were very different from my original ones, a changed Game mode layout and Auto Motion Plus settings that suddenly dropped the "Blur Reduction" option (this all got me to thinking that the techs installed a board for a DIFFERENT Samsung model that was below ours, perhaps a 6 or 7 series that boasted a 60Hz panel, not a 120Hz panel like we originally had). I called the techs back and they said they have to confirm whether the board they were sent was the actual correct one for my serial number and exact model, but they didn't get back to me yet. I am getting the unsettling feeling that I am going to eventually have to take a loss on this and replace the whole damn thing with a new 65" television, but I won't look to a Samsung again because I'm reading about how even QLED owners are experiencing these HDMI problems. IF Samsung decides to offer me a refund (if they can't seem to fix this problem), I am going to be forced to buy a new panel from another company, so I wanted to ask for some suggestions regarding what brand I should be looking at based on our needs and budget; the size would, again, be 65-inches, and I'd like to stay away from an edge-lit set if possible (the blooming on the NU8000 was HORRENDOUS). The primary viewing is going to be done in a dark room watching DVD, regular Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, so black level performance is very important (though I don't think we can afford an OLED, unfortunately). The price range would have to be in and around what we bought our NU8000 for. Can anyone recommend brands/models for me in case I DO have to look to a replacement display? Would Sony be a good choice, or are their less-expensive sets not rated that well? I know everyone is going to immediately suggest a Hinsense, TCL or Vizio, but are there any other brands I can consider? |
