Default Piercing - Nicolas Pesce / Mia Wasikowska, Christopher Abbott (2018))

Piercing (USA 2018)

written and directed by
Nicolas Pesce

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6516314/

Quote:
Reed (Christopher Abbott) is going on a business trip. He kisses his wife and infant son goodbye, but in lieu of a suitcase filled with clothes, he's packed a toothbrush and a murder kit. Everything is meticulously planned: check into a hotel and kill an unsuspecting victim. Only then will he rid himself of his devious impulses and continue to be a good husband and father. [...]

Based on the critically acclaimed cult novel by Ryū Murakami, director Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother, 2016 Sundance Film Festival) blends psychological horror with comedy and stylish neo-noir, resulting in a sly take on the fantasy of escape and the hazards of modern romance.

I like Mia Wasikowska and she doesn’t seem to have been in much recently so I’m interested to see how this is. Heard The Eyes Of My Mother was pretty fantastic as well.

I have the biggest man-crush on Christopher Abbot and I have no idea why. I think it's because he just looks like such a casual, every-day man. He doesn't scream "Hollywood actor" to me.

Just so...rugged and average looking...but it really does the trick for me.

Looks pretty great, though someone at the marketing depart should be told to ease it up with some of the transition packs.

Well that was pretty lackluster.

Takes the basic plot points from the story but strips away the character motivations, emotion, and past traumas in exchange for Goblin music, CGI bugs and gimp sex.

Read the novel instead, it's a one-sitting affair and it will probably leave a bigger impression.

Yeah I like the cast but I hate to use the criticism that I found it a bit boring. Would have worked better as a short film I think. I did enjoy the aesthetics though.

(5/10)

Weird, and not entirely in a good way. But, I'm a big fan of the two main actors. 3/5
