I received my first 4K UHD TV this past Saturday, the LG Super UHD 65SK8500, and while I'm happy with the overall image quality and upscaling, I'm pretty disappointed in how it handles motion
![]() Basically whatever I throw at it, whether it be TV broadcast, Blu-ray (a priority), steaming, USB MKV and gaming, all exhibit motion that appears blurry, or potentially 'ghosting'? It's not crisp as I would have expected. It's not so noticeable in fairly static scenes, but with major movement it's apparent. Of course I've turned off all the TrueMotion and processing settings I can find, including RealCinema and I'm still stumped. I sit back around 2.7m from the screen, perhaps I should be further? It's really disappointing considering the money spent on this. Would appreciate any insight or solutions if possible! |

TruMotion to OFF. Real Cinema ON. Noise reduction of all kinds OFF.

Indeed, my first task was to turn all motion processing off. Real cinema looks to me if it’s a kind of TruMotion though? I’m wondering if what I’m seeing is something to do with motion processing HD into UHD?
I’ve got my first 4K UHD player arriving tomorrow, so I’ll play about with that and maybe try a factory reset. |

Got the Panasonic 820 player over the weekend and it certainly improved the motion issue I described in the original post. I guess it's a case of upgrading my other equipment to meet the standards, though it's a shame the onboard apps like Netflix still have the strange smeary motion.

3D hasn't been switched on has it? If it's dialed back to it's lowest level it might give that look. Your Panasonic will be do the scaling so the TV shouldn't have an issue. You could try outputting your player at 1080p to see how the LG up-scales.

No problem as tcripe mentioned make sure the soap opera effect is turned off if you haven't already done so and for all inputs. All these added effects by the TV manufacturers just get annoying. Is it so hard to out of the box allow a simple crystal clear picture with real life detail, great colors and deep blacks. Hope you eventually figure out whats going on here. Exactly the reason why most TV sets these days have to be calibrated for best performance, blame the TV manufacturers.

TV and disc are running at different frame/refresh rates anyway (UK TV is 50Hz and Blu/4K is at 24p), plus there's the separate issue of whether something on TV is shot interlaced with that more 'video' type look or progressive for a 'film' look.

What does broadcast and Blu/4K look like on your Sony Geoff? Any of the smeary motion as I described originally?
