USA The Bear (1988) (25th Anniversary Collector's Edition) - September 29, 2015

Quote:
A sheer triumph of cinema in the wild, you've never seen anything like The Bear. Notable for its stunning cinematography, minimal dialogue, and outstanding animal performances, director Jean-Jacques Annaud's (Quest For Fire, The Name of the Rose) astonishing tale of wilderness survival has thrilled and charmed audiences and critics all over the world.

Set in 19th century British Columbia, The Bear follows the story of a young cub and an adult Grizzly as they join forces to survive the perils inherent in their mountain habitat. With each passing obstacle, the two bears further develop a friendship that can only make them stronger—but will it be enough for them to overcome their most deadly enemy?

An adventure story with heart and humanity, The Bear remains a breathtaking and powerful experience decades after its original release. Presented here in a special 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition from Shout! Factory, The Bear proves itself a film to celebrate again and again.

Wicked!
My wife and I were just talking about this movie a couple weeks ago. She was incredulous that I hadn't seen it and wanted us to watch it together.
Thanks OP!

From what I've read with forced subtitles. I wonder if Shout is getting the same 4K scan. Not a fan of shout.

Edit: Looks like it. Will wait for reviews.

That's the one.

I'm very excited by this one but must wonder how Shout got a Sony title.

2 years late for the 25th anniversary don't you think? :P

Still, this could be a sign that maybe Shout! might finally be able to do CEs of Sony movies.

I was told in the 'France' international section here, that yes, it's forced subtitles.

I have this edition and didn't see any force subtitles when I scanned through it. Bear* in mind though that the spoken dialogue in this is minimal

*pun intended

The Bear is a good movie, and the cub was so adorable.

Can't wait to see how much Shout's lousy compression affects the remastered video.

It may look better than you think. Nobody knows what the A/V quality of the blu-ray is going to be until we see it, and that's 4 months from now. I'm quite sure, the same people are going to find something wrong with it, and complain (like they always do), I'll guarantee you.

Could've been a much better movie if they didn't use human voice actors to attempt to make the bear cub sound extra cute.

The face of the bear cub on the cover is creeping me out. It looks like someone I've seen before, but I can't quite remember who... This guy, maybe:

All the covers in the USA have been hideous, starting with the DVD. My HD digital copy has the best artwork. **sigh**

Why couldn't they go with this cover? Infinitely better.
