Thanks for posting the info on this. August 22nd is a long ways off for now, but good to hear it's at least late summer.
Sin City 2 3D could be great in 3D, but I can imagine it will be a big challenge to pull off in 3D also, relating to the high contrasts of the black and white tones used as the art style, which make ghosting tough to minimize if the goal is stronger 3D. Same with outer space and bright lights on dark backgrounds. Ever notice in stronger 3D films, background flames flickering on a dark wall have ghosted images on each side (one extra ghost copy on each side of the intended single 3D flame in the middle)? Reason being the great but limited crystal technology of 3D stereo glasses can't block out all light, and high contrast tones make it more obvious. With that in mind, I imagine this may aim for medium 3D as the goal, but hope I'm wrong and they go for strong 3D, for the days when 3D glasses are in the past, and even if it results in more ghosting for today's current 3D glasses tech. |

I read Mickey Rourke will return as Marv in a sequence. That was my favorite action scene from the original movie, when he's escaping from the apartment building down the flights of stairs.

Sin City 2's 3D was in the mostly high medium, strong 3D range, with some regular medium shots mixed in.
As far as consistency, I agree with Dubstar in that the biggest problem I saw with the 3D was the fact that Rodriguez films too many close ups of the face, which brings the face into the majority of the screen, leaving little effectiveness to the 3D effect which got flattened out on the closeups. Otherwise, when he zoomed out, the 3D was strong and mostly effective and very nicely done. XD3D Cinemark theater showing. The 3D is definitely worth seeing despite all of the face closeups. With high contrast black and white and some gray tones of the comic book style, I noticed a lot of ghosting of lights in building windows, which is unavoidable most times with stronger 3D. I personally don't mind it, as if 3D eventually goes glasses free, this will not be a problem as long as the Glasses Free 3D Tech is able to completely block out all vision of the other eye's angle, unlike with 3D glasses, which can't completely block out the other eye's light. Sin City 2 is more interesting than the first one in terms of story and characters and more action. Marv is a major character this time, which was what I was hoping. |

Agreed. Close-up moments are perfect areas for 3D to manifest realism. Some of my favorite emotional moments in one of the best native-3D movies out there, The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet has superb dimensional close-up segments. Love 3D realism.

I thought the 3D was pretty good and the movie was alright. It wasn't as good as the first one but I liked it. I thought there were plenty of terrific scenes which highlighted 3D. Not the best movie but not terrible either. I'll pick it up on Blu when it goes below 19.99.

I thought the first one was better. Having Marv being a bigger part of the movie was a plus, but the first one had the Bruce Willis.Jessica Alba story and Elijah Wood was a great villain.
