Default ? about Dobly Atmos speaker modules

? regarding Atmos itself..which speaker modules are the best choice to put on top of my tower speakers as using ceiling installed speakers are a no go looking at trying a simple 5.1.2 set-up first...thinking of trying Mirage nanosats instead of the modules just an idea ?Thanks!!

I have a pair of these that I am using on top of my front speakers. I'm reasonably happy with them, especially for the price. I doubt that you are going to do much better without going to ceiling or wall mounted speakers.

For the rears I am using these indoor-outdoor speakers, which sit on my rear surrounds and are aimed at the ceiling. Sound quality is comparable to the Pioneers. I wouldn't have bought them for this purpose, but they came free with my Yamaha receiver.

I use these as my heights, and they are amazing: https://www.svsound.com/products/prime-elevation

Very versatile, where you could mount them up high on a wall and have them fire down like I do, or you could even place them on top of towers, or even use them as surrounds if you wanted to.

They are a perfect solution for someone who doesn't want or can't use in-ceiling speakers because they are built to handle Atmos and DTS:X, and work better than up-firing, ceiling bounce speakers since they have the ability to angle and fire down, which is a much improved way of listening, since the ceiling bounce technology just isn't as good yet.

Definitely recommend them. They are solid and very well made, and they have some really interesting mounting hardware available as well that allows you to do a lot with them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't really see any pictures on their website of them doing the bolded. Which way would you orient them, logo tab up or down?

Hey, sorry for the late response.

There are no images of these speakers doing that with the towers (I wouldn't recommend it as first choice compared to a shelf or wall mounted), but they would be oriented to slope back most likely. The logo on the faceplate can actually flip, so it isnt necessarily logo up or down, the logo can change depending on how you use them.

Shoot me a PM - I can get you in touch with a contact if you are serious about trying them out. Personally, I love them.

No worries. Thanks for the response. I opted to go with the Pioneer SP-T22A-LR because I need them to sit on my old B&W 600 series speaker towers.

How do you like those Pioneers? Do they give you what you want sound wise?

I've been thinking about atmos for a while and the more I do the less I am happy about cutting holes in my ceiling so while I appreciate it's not ideal,I think I have finally settled on getting two KEF R50 to place on my front Monitor Bronze.

Two upfiring are better than none is my thinking.

After writing my earlier post in this thread, I upgraded to two pair of KEF R50's. Wonderful speakers. That is as good as it is going to get with upfiring speakers. They do just fine with ambient sounds like thunder and rainfall. They do less well with sounds that are supposed to be at a specific point in space (e.g., planes and helicopters flying overhead), simply because the sound is diffused by the ceiling. Wall or ceiling mounted speakers are the way to go if you can (I now have ceiling mounted speakers in my new house), but otherwise the KEF's are the next best thing, IMO.

I went ahead and ordered a pair of Kef R50.

I'm really happy with my current 5.1 system so while I know many turn their noses up at these modules,I believe they will make an improvement to my soundstage which is what it is all about.

Looking forward to hearing them when they arrive next week.

Maybe some at other sites may turn up their noses, but I don’t find that here.
We work with what we got and it’s always an improvement.

I just upgraded to an 7.2.4 system and got a second pair of the Pioneer Atmos speakers to put on top of my rear surrounds. I highly recommend them for Atmos on a budget.

It sounds great, but one annoyance is that my new receiver doesn't allow me to set individual crossovers for the speakers. The Atmos speakers provide the best effect when you can set the crossover to 150hz or higher.

I have to say I am really enjoying my Kef R50 speakers.

I was really surprised with the weight of them, they do have a real quality about them and have certainly improved my set-up.
Anyone thinking of upfiring atmos, then I do recommended these.
