Mahler is my favorite post-romantic composer and SF Symphony/Michael Tilson Thomas is recording his cycle for multichannel SACD release. I'm sure many of you are aware that all the symphonies except 8 have been released--a few have won awards--as well as Das Lied von der Erde and Das klagende Lied. I was not aware of those last two until last year, but they are also recorded at Davies Symphony Hall and impeccably produced like the symphonies.
Anyway, I highly recommend this cycle. MTT and SFS are very enjoyable and the compositions are worth exploring on every level whether you're new to Mahler or familiar with his work. They sound darn good. http://www.sfsymphony.org/projects/m...lt.aspx?id=290 |
