I had my TV professionally calibrated 2 weeks ago. Has anyone else on here with my same TV, had it professionally calibrated. If so, are you happy with the results and are my calibrated settings different from yours? These are the settings:
AV Selection User Contrast 42 Brightness +2 Color +3 Tint 0 Sharpness -10 Pure Cinema Off Color Temp Manual R High -1 G High 0 B High -6 R Low +1 G Low 0 B Low +1 CTI Off Intelligent Color Off DNR Off MPEG NR Off BNR Off Dynamic Contrast Off Black Level Off ACL Off Gamma 2 Intelligent DRE Off What do you guys think? I turned the sharpness back up to "0" because the images appeared way to soft for my liking. |

I had Best Buy do it, they sent over a guy who knew what he was doing and explained it as he went. He gave me several examples of what ha changed and made sure I understood what he did before he left.

The picture is a definite world of difference. At first when I got this done it looked a little "off" to me, but now if I turn it back on the standard settings for shits and giggles I can't believe I was watching that for months. The biggest difference was that the picture was less "bright" and "hot," which made the color tones much more accurate. It was definitely worth getting done, I could not go back to watching standard settings now. My friend has the 60" Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO150FD model (the one that just won the JD Power and Associates award for the best HDTV in that size range for 2007) and he never got it calibrated. He thinks $7,000 is a reasonable price for a TV and he paid $1,100 for the Pioneer Elite Blu-ray player instead of getting the $400 PS3 because he doesn't like the idea of owning a game console (even though he understands the PS3 is a better player), yet he thinks $300 for getting his TV calibrated is just too much. When I go over to his house and watch a Blu-ray movie, I can easily tell where his picture is lacking and I prefer watching on my set. So getting your TV calibrated is a must. $300 is a bit pricey though, I don't know how well discs like this work: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-Essentials-Basics-Blu-ray/dp/B000V6LST0/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1200062555&sr=8-1, but if they don't work too well and the expensive professional calibration is your only option, then it is more than worth it to pay. |
