History's "Vikings" has been renewed for a second season.

In the midst of its successful debut season, History ordered 10 more episodes of the historical drama centering on Viking Ragnar Lodbrok (Travis Fimmel).

The fact that History decided to renew "Vikings" should come as no surprise: The freshman drama has averaged 5.0 million total viewers in its first season, with a 1.9 rating in the coveted 18-49 demo.

“'Vikings' is a win win for us. As our first scripted series, 'Vikings' has paid off in a big way with critical acclaim, strong ratings and a passionate, loyal fan base," Dirk Hoogstra, History's executive vice president of development and programming, said of the "Vikings" renewal in a statement. "It came out of the gate strong and has stayed on top, solidifying History as a major player in the scripted genre, just as we are in reality. We could not be more proud of the entire cast and crew and everyone involved in the making of 'Vikings.'"

Production on "Vikings" Season 2 is set to kick off this summer and the sophomore season will make its debut on History sometime in 2014.

In the meantime, enjoy the first season of "Vikings," which comes to an end on April 28.

Vikings has been the surprise of the Spring television season. It is much better than I expected, with both action and some depth to the storylines.

I'm at episode 6, is a good show!
I was actually watching Spartacus 1Season and left it halfway since I seem to be enjoying Vikings better.
The main protagonist reminds me of the actor Charlie Hunnam of the show Sons of Anarchy.

Not liking the Vikings on Vikings as much...they are too arrogant & that will be their demise(they did not last). Mocking the faith, but hey that is what the world has & will always do.

Were Vikings always that brutal, non loving toward their fellow persons, did they ever do anything good If they did they need to show that as well! I hope it goes in that direction 4 me!

I gave up on the show as soon as they killed the kid in episode 3. Way too slow moving and I have way too many shows on the DVR which don't feel like a chore to watch.

I have to be blunt here.
Luckily this show isnt just for you. You don't seem to know much about this culture and you need to accept that not every culture gets on bended knee before your god. To these people the christian faith and god was just some BS. They believed their gods were the true gods the way christians believe their god is the one. The vikings were a raiding culture. They took what they needed. They had different ideas and ways of life.

Not everything in life is sugar coated. Do you want an accurate portrayal or some BS that fits you?

lasted around 300 years (late 800s till the end of the 1100s), not a bad effort considering they probably wern't the nicest fellows . they did pop up again from time to time after that

Haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. I do like what the History Channel is doing with scripted programming and I love historical epics.

I watched the first 4 episodes and wasn't all that impressed with it only because it seemed like a take off of Game of Thrones to me.

Proselytizing aside, the vikings were not aware of any of this at the time. To them christianity was another god or BS. The pagan and polytheist view was that different people and cultures had their own gods that looked after them or that their gods were the same but with different names. The idea of one god and no others didn't exist in the minds of polytheists and pagans.

Given the times, culture, and lack of exposure you can't really expect them to be any other way towards christians. If anything the christian god appeared weak to let pagans rob his temples and kill his people. A viking of that time encountering the christian god would not risk the wrath of his own gods by taking up worship of a new god that to them would appear weak. I know you yourself don't believe in the viking gods, but they did. It is all they knew. For them it was a matter of their soul's place in the afterlife. Just like you are concerned about your own soul and seek salvation in Christ. If you want to understand a people you need to get inside their head, and see it from their perspective. Looking down on them from your 21 century privaledged christian viewpoint isn't the way to approach history. It doesn't mean you have to approve. I certainly don't approve of the way they treated other people, but I know their motivations for doing so.

And you might be surprised to know that I am a christian. I simply don't expect 9th century vikings who have never encountered christianity to understand its ways or expect them to be cuddly towards Britain. And I am glad to hear you are sticking with the show.

My wife and I gave it a few episodes, but we weren't very fond of it. It was hard to feel a connection to the characters.

That's because they are Vikings
You will start caring more for the characters after episode 4, the first 3 I liked due to the story not the character development.
