...When you see a film in theatres you really like, but it's not a big popular film, and then it not only misses out on a blu ray release, but even DVD?
It just shows in the cinema and then disappears into the aether. |

Meanwhile, Palo Alto was a Tribeca release and they seem to select what titles to put on Blu-ray by dartboard (Detachment and Listen Up Phillip weren't released domestically on Blu but Grave Encounters 2 was, does that make any sense?). I might have to get an Oppo just to import the Masters of Cinema release of Listen Up Phillip. |

Some movies before home video may have missed out on video releases, but I can't think of any movies that missed video releases since VHS. Assuming we're talking about movies that get some sort of regional or national releasing, and not just ultra low budget indie films played only at some local filmfest.
Unless you can provide examples, I can't think of anything. Though a lot of movies are becoming streaming only movies online, so maybe that's what you're getting at. But I don't really see those come out in theaters. |

There's lots of films that have yet to be released on DVD; my sister has a trunk full of them. There's probably 100 separate tapes, and I'd say most are still restricted to VHS.

I get sad that many films from my country don't get a DVD, let alone a Blu-ray. Many are available for free in subpar quality on YouTube, or just air in a dedicated TV channel - apparently, for most people here, that's more than enough.
