Looking a couple years down the road what is a blu-ray disc capable of?
Does it have what it takes to display past 1080p on insanely huge 100" TVs or on a projector screen? Knowing 1080p has been around a few years, is any company out there going beyond that horizon and what sort of bitrate would be required? Are there already new cleanup and compression procedures in place that are just not in production? I really got into Blu after I found Superbit was not enough but have to admit it was definately a few steps ahead of standard DVD what would a Super-blu be like? Compare a dvd mastered today to a dvd mastered a decade ago. There is no comparison. I imagine once the studios get a better handle on compression and what it takes to prepare a HD master that the Blu-rays of the future will look better than the ones we get now. Maybe they will come out with BD upconverters.

I agree with Mr. Kent. We will look back on the movie's we purchased first compared to the new ones we get and still be wowed. Not only will the studios get better at it, they won't have to conform to HD DUD's requirements to fit it on a disc, making it even better yet. Plus with the advancements in television technology it will be amazing what displays will be able to do.

If anybody is going to make a Super-Blu, it would be Sony. Some Blu-rays are kind of like that already (no extras). But imagine a true Super-Blu: no extras and the full 50 GB used purely for video and audio. Now that would be one hell of a bitrate.
