YES YES YES YES YESSSSSS!!!
Ladies and gentlemen, I have no words to express how happy I am (and most of you probably too) that 88 Films finally decided to get their hands on this Legendary saga (even though it's still lacking the 3rd film which is more of an Andy Lau action thriller than a LAotL one and Underground Express which is more of a propaganda piece that wasn't even restored by Fortune Star yet, at least to my knowledge). Finally a good chance to shelve the good old Megastar, Deltamac and Joy Sales DVDs and get this insane looking edition. It's funny because each of the aforementioned DVDs complemented each other, actually. The Megastar DVD had translated subtitled parts when the Chinese text was shown on screen (at least for the 2nd part, can't confirm about the 1st film though). The Deltamac DVD had original mono audio which still sounds good despite the age while the Joy Sales DVD had the best picture quality (even better than the 2010s Kam & Ronson Blu-ray I would say, as this one looked way too grainy and had this awful 7.1 remixed sound) and extras (a set of original lobby cards, a photo gallery with the stills from the film and the original theatrical and newly edited trailers). Would love to see the rest of the parts getting the same treatment although I doubt it will ever happen. I thought that when I saw the French Metropolitan DVD release of the first two films, just like this upcoming 88 edition. The distribution rights for the 3rd film seem to belong to China 3d Digital Entertainment while the 4th film, well... lucky if it even makes it on HK Blu-ray considering how critical it is towards Mainland China and how tense is the situation with this kind of topics there now. |

Yeah, it'll almost certainly drop as that's just the MSRP. As StarDestroyer linked above, it's much cheaper at Bullmoose, at $32.97.

Just watched both of these back to back and LOVED them. These aren't as polished as the John Woo films, but still really good.
The first one is a more realistic crime film and is very gritty and nihilistic. This one literally flew by in terms of time. This movie portrays the world as a very cruel and dark place, but it worked. The second film is also very good, but feels more like a typical HK film. There is darkness in it, but a lot more humor and some fight scenes as well. The last 10 minutes are pure insanity that any John Woo/Ringo Lam fan will enjoy. This one takes a bit more time to get moving, but once it does, it doesn't slow down. Overall, two really good films and very happy 88 Films brought these over. I hope the 3rd and 4th come out at some point as well. |
