A Nordic release of The Deer Hunter 4K UHD is now listed on cdon.se and coolshop.se for release on 2020-03-11:
https://cdon.se/film/deer-hunter-4k-...u-ray-49242764 https://www.coolshop.se/produkt/deer-hunter-4k/2345S6/ Good since the existing UK release only contains English SDH subtitles. The Nordic release contains Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Mavrick; 01-25-2020 at 10:56 AM. |

Note however that the Nordic release also says it's Studio Canal on the back cover. I.e. same as for the UK release. So isn't it more likely that they just took the Studio Canal release and added subtitles? Or does Soul Media have a track record of only releasing BD-R 50 GB discs for 4K UHD movies? |

It's possible they learned their lesson from "Django" (their only 4K release, AFAIK) and will now go with pressed discs. Remember, a batch of the BD-Rs was bad and presumably costed them quite a bit of money. They're better off just biting the bullet and getting some discs pressed. That and even if they wanted to go with BD-100s (BD-50s for a three hour film would be a nightmare), those discs cost quite a bit.
All that said, I certainly won't be buying this one! Best wishes to whoever takes the dive. |

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/First...lu-ray/253054/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Rambo...lu-ray/254143/ According to the info there, those discs were 66 GB UHD (i.e. same as for the US releases of those movies) For The Deer Hunter I agree a 100 GB disc would be nice though (since the movie is 3h 3min long), so let's hope that's what it will be. I just checked the SoulMedia website, and the 4K UHD release of The Deer Hunter has been removed from there:
http://www.soulmedia.dk/?type=Bluray Only the regular Blu-ray can be found there now. I guess this is a sign that the 4K UHD has been cancelled. |

I just got a status update mail from the shop where I had pre-ordered this movie. Apparently the 4K UHD release has been cancelled due to too little demand.
Sad, since I was really looking forward to it. It's a great movie and I really would like to have it as 4K UHD with "normal" subtitles (the UK release only has English SDH subtitles). |
