Default Capcom eager to remake Resident Evil 3 if fans demand it

Capcom eager to remake Resident Evil 3 if fans demand it

Quote:
Way back in the late 90s, as development of Resident Evil 2 dragged on, Capcom also started development on other Resident Evil titles. Supposedly originally intended as a spinoff before series creator Shinji Mikami suggested otherwise, a partner title to Resident Evil 2 was also being made, starring Jill Valentine in the same city as Leon and Claire. Titled Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, the game was almost a supplement to Resident Evil 2 which was released just a year prior, and the two titles are closely tied together in people's minds. When Resident Evil 2's remake was announced, fans speculated that Resident Evil 3 is likely not far behind.

It turns out Capcom is thinking similarly, too, but is not quite ready to commit.

In an interview with Japanese website GameWatch and translated by GearNuke, Resident Evil 2 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi was asked about the possibility of Resident Evil 3 now that its predecessor has released. Hirabayashi explains that they only did Resident Evil 2 because fans had been asking for it for so long, so they need fan permission to do Resident Evil 3.

It's a very PR answer and one that makes me suspect they have already given the project the go-ahead, but I suppose fan enthusiasm showing them that it's the right decision can't hurt.

Resident Evil 2 is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can read our review of the game right here.

I would approve. Then, every RE game would be 6th Gen or higher. Early 3D games from 5th gen, though I have fond memories of them, could really benefit from modern tech.

I don't think they're gonna get much resistance from fans to remake Resident Evil 3.

Considering how well received the RE2 remake has been received, i think RE3 with as much love and care is almost gonna be a given. Plus i'm sure critically and commercially its been a success.

Sure, along with Veronica. I'd bite on RE1 with this engine too.

Because the camera view adds a whole new experience to the old game, I don't see it as a bad thing, but a good thing for fans of the franchise, and it's probably easier to do that than to make an entirely new game in that style.

I’ll get it day 1. RE2make is one of the best games in the series.

I would REALLY like a collection of the PS1 originals with trophies and a museum section, similar to the Mega Man and Street Fighter Anniversary collections.

So would I, but if it would be easier for them to go ahead and start and finish 3 then I'm all for it.

I'm expecting a RE 3 remake for next gen lol.

I asked this before in another thread, but does anyone think that one day they'll remake RE 4 but make it in first-person due to the RE 7 direction (like how they changed the camera for RE 2 to match RE 4)? It seems Capcom (and Square Enix with the FF 7 remake) like to change the camera point of view to give returning players a new experience.

Nah, people just complained so loud about fixed cameras that we’ll never see them again for better or worse.

Nice to see Resident Evil back to its survival horror roots. The RE2 remake seems like a good enough reason alone to buy a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Capcom should release a collection that includes the RE1, 2 and 3 remakes. The collection should include the original games. That would be totally worth buying.

The original RE 1, 2 and 3 is how the series is suppose to be. It's suppose to be pure survival horror. It's after RE3 that the series went in other directions.

Insiders have already confirmed that a remake is in development (and that it's gonna be quite different from what people might expect), so the 'we might make it if fans demand it' attitude in interviews is just PR bullshit.

Collection? I would give them $60 for each game up tO RE4 if they remake them like they did with RE2.

Do it and remake Code Veronica as well.

And while we're on the subject of remakes, Capcom, please give us a remake of Dino Crisis 1 and 2 and Mega Man Legends 1 and 2, thanks!

You must not have played Code Veronica...

I will be the RE3 remake... if it includes Veronica.

RE3 is really RE2.5. CV is the true RE3.

Of course it went in other directions. It was a natural progression, when you take into consideration where the story was going. The characters went from reacting to situations to becoming more proactive regarding them.
