‘The First Omen’- 20th Century Studios Calls Upon the Antichrist Once Again With Official ‘The Omen’ Prequel

Hollywood continues to mine their IP for franchises to retool and 20th Century Studios has called upon the Antichrist once again with plans for The First Omen, an official prequel to their The Omen franchise.

“Legion” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor” episodic director Arkasha Stevenson will be making her feature directorial debut, reports Deadline. She also helmed every single episode of Syfy’s “Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block”.

Stevenson will also handle the rewrite, alongside writing partner Tim Smith. Smith is set to executive produce with Phantom Four producing.

The original 1976 classic, which starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and Harvey Stephens, followed an American ambassador who believes his five-year-old son is the Antichrist.

The pic spawned two sequels, 1978’s Damien: Omen II and 1981’s The Final Conflict, as well as the 2006 reboot, not to mention other follow-ups on the small screen.

The plot of the original trilogy could be great if pre-planned and better executed.

The idea of the anti-christ growing up to be a little Tory git who wants to rule the world with a mixture of politics and cult sacrifices, eventually driven mad by the potential rebirth of Christ...

So much wasted potential.

I hope this gets produced quickly. Been waiting since the original announcement back in April 2016. I hope the film will be very similar in tone to the original Omen and Damien Omen 2.

I'd rather see a reboot where they stick to the idea that Damien is not actually the anti-christ. Or at least they don't remove the ambiguity.

I wonder when this will be released. If I have to guess what the plot will be, I would say it’s about a group of individuals who foreseen or aware of the upcoming birth of the anti-christ child and they try to prevent his birth but are killed one by one (Basically similar to those who die trying to reveal Damien’s identity or stop him in the original film). My guess is the main protagonist is close to succeeding in preventing Damien’s birth but dies at the end of the film before he/she is able to complete the mission.

Makes you wonder what areas are going to be explored in a prequel, and how it all becomes a matter of taste and restraint.

Through the use of cutting edge CGI, will we see photo-realistic scenes of Gregory Peck's arse going like a fiddler's elbow as he knocks up Lee Remick? Or the bestial coupling of Satan and jackal? How about ending with the real Thorn baby graphically having its head smashed in?

I have a lot of affection for the Omen trilogy (and there are only three of them...) but the recent mentality of doing something just because you can might really harm this one.

The prequel should be about how Father Brennan, Mrs Baylock and others convinced themselves that they could induce the second coming of Christ by bringing the antichrist to earth. About how they performed some bizarre ritual with a dog and a pregnant woman, perhaps a member of their cult or just an innocent, and told themselves they had the son of satan "born of a jackal" etc. The rest writes itself.

I've often wondered if Mrs Baylock was Damien's real mother, or if it was the nanny who hangs herself.
