I'm looking for a 40 to 50 inch set for a spare room that I'm making into a gaming room, to hook up my many, many years and generations worth of game consoles up in. I do have an old CRT TV that I'm also going to set up in this room, which will be used for any older systems that I will be connecting with composite cables.
But I plan to connec anything that I will be using HDMI or Component with to whatever TV that I end up buying. The issue seems to be finding anything that still has a component input. I'm not worried about how many inputs it has, as long as it is at least one. I can always use a switcher with it. Budget-wise, I would prefer to stay roughly in the $500 range or under if possible. I'm willing to go up to $1,000 if it's the only way to get what I'm looking for. I was looking into TCL and Vizio TVs, which tend to be really good "bang for the buck" TVs in terms of quality, but they all seem to have one composite input and no component. I would like to get something 4K and at the best quality that I can in this price range (preferably with minimal input lag since it's mainly for gaming), but within reason, I'm willing to sacrifice some degree of quality if it means getting a TV with the connections that I need. I'm not concerned about whether or not the TV has any smart features or (if it does have them) which ones. If some are included, great, that's a bonus, but this is mainly for connecting gaming consoles to. Any advice is appreciated! |

Might be better to just get an inexpensive converter box?
Or if you have or plan into upgrading an AVR, get one that can scale analogue inputs to HDMI. I wouldn't get a lesser TV than you want just for something that can be surmounted in other ways. I don't know where you are in the world, but here's one cheap example of a solution. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Component...wAAOSwfMlcMGrV Obviously you'll get better quality by paying a bit more, but you can pick and chose instead of being limited to specific TVs. Thank you for the reply.
![]() I thought about going the converter box route, but aren't there drawbacks to that, like lag, in comparison to hooking it up directly to a TV with a component input? I'm willing to pay a decent amount for a good converter assuming it would work about as well as the TV having those inputs to begin with. While I don't want to "break the bank" over it, I'm willing to spend more if it means getting something that will work better in this regard. |
