Spain The Platform (Sci-fi Dystopia)

A vertical prison with one cell per level. Two people per cell. One only food platform and two minutes per day to feed from up to down. An endless nightmare trapped in The Pit.

Any word on a Blu-ray for this? Guessing it would have to call me from Europe or Asia with Netflix owning US rights

Has no one here seen this? It's the most popular movie on IMDb right now.

I saw it a few days ago on Netflix. Interesting movie, but i wouldn't say it was great. If you a fan of Cube, you might enjoy it.

This was way too heavy-handed to be enjoyable. Snowpiercer is a much better example of how a story like this can be told, whereas this was just too over-the-top with its messages. The ending was a cop-out too.

The above reviews are garbage. This film is an instant classic. 5 stars.

Agreed.

The movie wears its message about class structure on its sleeve, which makes it a stretch to even call it an allegory. In and of itself, there's nothing wrong with such an approach - but then it gets all obscure in the ending, which is jarring and simply doesn't work.

It's a decent enough pastime, but no instant classic. Rated 3 stars in the poll.

typical netflix fodder. Boring, and didn't like any of the characters.

I loved it. Not going to waste my time trying to convince anyone it is indeed a masterpiece. I'm confident father time shall bring the hindsight of retrospect, and it shall be considered such.

Phew. Where to start unpacking? Well, firstly, all the comprasions to Cube meets Snowpiercer. Nah. I'm not denying they exist, but I define this more as Tarkovsky meets German with added panna cotta.

It can be viewed simply as a commentary on the structure of society. But it's a film that works more in deconstruction. Like Gorengs character arch is underpinned by a subtext of understanding the relationship of text and meaning through Don Quixote. An most excellent touch. On the whole Goreng is the representation of guilt at the heart of Western societies.

What i enjoyed the most is the relentless asking of the question, are we innately selfish? Can solidarity only be achieved through the irony of inhumanity?

As for the ending...

[Show spoiler] The child is not literally Miharus daughter, she's just a physical representation of innocence and naivety, and Miharu is the generalised representation of foreigners who dream of being white and famous. Yet their naivety leads them into exploitation, and thus the loss of innocence. Miharu keeps searching for her innocence and naivety in the form of that child. Then found and, so, sleeps, dreaming ascending to a better life. With the hope those at the top of the "food chain" don't create another Miharu. And allow them to prosper and fulfill their dreams of a better life.

The ending is a bit disappointing but overall the film does just fine as a piece of social commentary.

There is already a bluray release, the japanese one.

Netflix owns the rights everywhere but Asia.

Thought it was pretty interesting. The ending was kind of ridiculous though.

the characters are all detestable, and the movie is too on the nose, but its alright. To call this a classic you must be a 5 YO or having watched like 10 movies in your entire life.

Unfortunately the Japan bluray only has Spanish and Japanese subtitles and Spanish audio- learned the hard way.

I saw it at TIFF, so I know there's English subtitles somewhere..

Looks interesting, thanks.

I'm very much used to the Spanish Castillan accent though watching this trailer, their accent/voices sounded a bit muffled or something. Hopefully it's not like that on the actual movie as I'd prefer just to watch it in Spanish without subtitles. The trailer does show it was filmed (?) in the Basque region so that could be why it sounds a bit different.

It makes sense, it's a Spanish movie, but considering it's a Japanese Blu-ray it could have not even had that.
